Dealership Sticker

How do i take this off!! It is plastic and looks exactly like the acura logo, same or similar material, and has thin foam tape attaching it to the car. Here is the pic. How do i take it off without messing up the paint?

your best bet would be to take it to a dealership and ask them to to take it off...so they are responsible for any paint chipping....

Every time I buy a new car I make sure I tell them No dealer decals. Take it back to the dealer and have them remove it. If they don't want to take it off send them a bill for advertising. It's bad enough that they have their name on the plate frame but putting a decal on the paint man that's BS.

Dental floss should get most of it off without damaging the paint.

I would take your car right back to Criswell Acura (if that's where you bought it) and demand that they remove it to your satisfaction. Additionally, I would remove the license plate frame(s) unless they are paying you to advertise for them.

Hey chkelly. Got mine from Criswell too. I may have been lucky, but I hooked it with my finger nails from each end and it peeled right off. A little residue came off with IHG. (3M Imperial Hand Glaze) A little heat with a hair dryer and the dental floss will work too if need be.

When ever you buy a new car you should tell them no dealer advertising unless they wish to pay you for advertising for them. Dental floss works well, unless they riveted them on.

i dont understand dental floss method..i would think that would pull the plaque off of the tape but leave the tape on the car, no?

I am an hour away from the dealership, dont feel like making that trip

Use the dental floss as a "saw" to cut the adhesive. Use a piece long enough to wrap between your fingers/hands, slide under one side of the emblem, then work up and down etc. to cut the emblem off. Once off, use something like Goo-Gone to help carefully rub the remainder of the adhesive off. You may get lucky if it hasn't been on long - as you start the "floss" procedure the entire thing comes off leaving little to no adhesive on the paint.
Dental Floss nor the Goo Gone will harm the paint finish. Be careful not to pry up one end of the emblem in a way that the opposite end "pokes" into the paint.

Overall, it should come off quite easily.

He said "decal", so he probably means a soft plastic decal, not a hard one like chkelly has. For the plastic one, a thumbnail works fine, which is how I took mine off, and also all the stripes they had put on, and not a scratch or a mark on the car.

Usually, with the plastic decals, there won't be any residue, but you can use the method described above to remove any that may be left.

For the hard sticker that chkelly has, the tape has been stuck to the logo much longer than it has been stuck to the paint, and usually comes off the paint side more easily than the logo side. So when you use the dental floss, you will get most of the tape off on the first try.

The hair dryer trick works well also, and you can probably peel it off without dental floss, as said above.

chkelly....take the car back to the dealer and let them take it off like the other guys said, but if you want to try yourself, make sure you heat it up with a hair dryer set on low heat before you try removing it. Usually, heating it slightly will soften the glue they use to attach it and make it easier to remove. I've done it before using the heat method, and I removed a big ugly stripe that went right down the side of the hood, roof, and trunk of an Audi I bought new many many years ago...it was so FUGLY that I didn't want the car looking like that but I was concerned that since the stripe was so big, that it would pull the paint off the car, or leave a mark behind. The hair dryer softened up the glue and it peeled right off and after I waxed the car, it was impossible to tell it was even there before. Good Luck!! PS: congrats on your new car...same color as mine...GOOD CHOICE!!!

Ridiculous! I refuse to take delivery of a car unless the stickers are GONE!

Took mine off just last night

I've had my TL for about 2 months and finally got tired of looking at my SPITZER emblem...

Went and got the floss and the wifes hair dryer...

Hit it with the hair dryer for about 30 seconds and began to lift the one corner edge with my finger and TINK... The whole thing came right off! No glue left behind... No need for floss... I "washed" and waxed behind it and it looks SO MUCH better.

It was clear that the adhesive on the stealership logo was not nearly as aggressive as the Acura logo, so I would suspect that your Criswell will come right off!

Had it written in my contract when I bought my car, NO decals from the dealer, they don't care, but if people don't say anything they are more likely to put it on.

I always specify no stickers or emblems, as my father did before me. Put your license plate frame on there if you want - I'll make the call on how long it stays. My dealership said they just started putting a thin sticker on the cars. I told them no way on mine.

You don't see too many Infinity or Lexus dealers doing this, Acura dealers take note. Luxury cars are too classy for these cheap-looking emblems. Good luck getting it off.
