acuraservice- I knew we should have just PM'd you on this wind noise issue

What I was referring to about acura having to authorize repairs, was my thought in specific to this car-
in tracking down a wind noise- body shop involved- lots of hours..my mind jumped to -the car has been bent at some point and the door does not fit (based largely on OPs excitement over the situation)

Lets see if it was an accident, sideswipe, or dropped off the lift or something like the car carrier (wouldnt be the first time)
For them to really dig into it being a manufacture defect - one they have never encountered- would `IMO` require some involvement/approval of the regional warranty rep

For normal warranty repairs- its a no hassle- dealer keeps the old parts to show acura rep- who authorizes payment on the job (thats how it was back in the day at the brand I worked for)
Normal known issues are under that heading
Strange problems---different department~

do any TLS owners notice when driving around 40-50mph you can hear wind noise from the driver side? I don't see how it could be a door alignment issue else the door wouldn't close correctly. The doors close just fine for me.

acuraservice isnt ~the man~ sent here to spy on us
He is a current and long time employee of an acura dealship and has offered his advice both private and public...clearing up the details we miss--

I thought the dealer was putting out $ for the loaner since they offered $25 a day discount off other repair with trans warranty replacement (front motor mount) if I didnt need the loaner

Must have been their way of trying to help me save a few dollars at the holidays
I am fairly sure the same rules on age min. apply as rental cars in each state

have you tried cleaning and waxing- or use car `detail spray` on the metal parts of the door opening on the car--where the rubber strip will touch- and use silicone spray lube on the rubber seals

That helps a lot in keeping things sealed- and prevents sticking in cold climates (if apllicable)
Some air noise also comes from the door handle and lock into the car

check all the doors - I mean do that clean and car wax to all the doors/sills AND the sun/moonroof!! check the screws that hold the sunroof rails and flip up shade

That moonroof seal can pull air into, and thru, the car with great force~

Nah...door adjustment is uncommon but not uncommon enough to raise red flags. Red flags get raised when you do things like try to order a transmission for a car with no known transmission problems that has 6,000 miles, like I did the other day. The way that it works with Acura for warranty repairs now is that there is almost nothing that requires pre-auth from a DPSM (Acura district rep). We do the repair and submit a claim, hold on to the old parts, and occasionally they will request parts back and then we ship them back to Acura. If they find stuff on the parts they called back for, like obvious damage that indicates it should not have been replaced under warranty, then they debit us back for a claim we have already been paid for. But most often what they are doing is continuous improvement research, for example when they start seeing a lot of failures of the same part they will call for them back to do further research on how to improve that part.

Glad to hear it straight from the source. If you don't mind me asking acuraservice.. what is the policy for moonlighting in regards to the techs? and about how long do techs stick around before branching out? this kind of stuff would make me sick to see first hand.

my dealer only gives me TLs to drive so far.......I got a dud of a rebuild for my CL-S's trans but my dealer is goingto take care of me. Once they did manage to bust my front bumper....they replaced it with acura parts and then let Abra paint it but those guys suck overspray like mad and couldn't even make the front lines right....... they were up front and honest about it so I do not hold it against them.

When I get my car back I will do this for sure. I plan on waxing her myself. I still can't believe I've been without my car for over 1 week now. I'd love to know how much my dealer is making off this service

Whao my car is ready! The dealer said they adjusted both front doors and now the wind noise is completely gone! I also got them to gas her up since they drove it over 30 miles!

I am heading there now to pick her up!

I just got home. The car drives awesome! The brakes don't rub nearly as much anymore. The wind noise is much improved, even better than my 05 TL was and the painted rotors and calipers looks awesome. The car was clean and everything was in order.

I met the mechanic who worked on my car. He had my car parked next to a 4G. We both looked at each other and I pointed to both and said "any questions"? He was cracking up and felt the same way as I did.

I signed off on the bill and they charged Acura $1150 for my service and me $260 OTD. So all in all they made almost what I suspected and we are all happy since my car is like new again. They even replaced my key which was beaten up and not locking.

As I was driving home I really felt like I was in a new car again despite I purchased it used....

Guys, bad news. MY wife was backing out of our driveway with my car tonight and bumped my Neighbors Camry that was parked directly across the street from my driveway. I hate that they always park there and I never park behind a driveway but regardless it was my wifes fault. The bumper is pretty banged up and needs to be repainted. Looks like its going back to the Acura body shop again

bet they're keeping it this long to do all the stuff so that the techs will have something to work on.

That's unfortunate man. You almost wish the car was still in Acura's possession i bet.

Buddy.. this always reminds me of 'ole Bill Shakespear..

"Sorrow come not in single spies, but in battalions."

What about the Camry? You know what I'd do is take that puppy off and take it into a good body shop. Skip the whole drama with Acura - 2 hr drive, wait, wait some more, drive another 2 hrs.. nevermind.. time to go A-SPEC... like I always say: "I'm not into modding but what better excuse to mod than a repair"

Haha your sick. I was thinking the same thing!

I did notice before my wife damaged my car that the driver door doesnt close properly unless you really use force. Apparantly they misaligned it by fixing the wind noise. I may have to bring it back there to get that fixed.

The question is, if I goto a local body shop, will they match the paint and get it as good as Acura can? Man I'd love to drop an ASpec kit on this baby. I will see how much my insurance company estimates for the damage so I know what I am working with.

BTW, I just got my VLED's today so I plopped them in with a flashlight in my dark garage. The interior is so friggin hot now. Nice while 4LED SMT's in the dome lights and 6LEDs on the door sills. Now I want to do the backup lights and license plate....

will it ever end?

Gene,

I had a friend with a body shop locally paint my roof spoiler and it matched perfectly. He got the color code off the car and mixed the paint himself...so it can be done.

And "no"...it never ends buddy! You'll keep modding your car when you see new stuff you like on Acurazine.

thanks Steve. I called my dealer and asked them to do an estimate with replacing the bumper since the car is so new. If they agree, I will bring it there and have them deal with my insurance.

My wife says she won't be driving my car anymore. I told her don't feel that way, just drive it in the day when visibility is better. I think my tint is too dark for her

They offered to paint your rotors for 220 dollars and you think that is a good deal?
