dealer test drive?

hey guys

i'm new to this forum and just registered because we are looking at the tl for my wife. i think its a great car for the money. even though its for her, i really like the type s and definitly think its worth the extra 2k. i have been reading that the ride is pretty stiff on the type s, so i don't know if she will like it or think its too harsh. so my question is, do dealers let you test drive the type s, since its a type s i am guessing that there will be a limited amount of them at the dealers. i know when i bought my m3, there were no test drives at most dealers. i guess it may also depend on which state you live in. btw, can you jersey guys tell me what quotes you are getting or how much you paid for the type s?

thanks

I would be very angry if a dealer did not let me test drive a car if they had one, its understandable if they don't have one, im sure they would let you test it if it was on the lot

i tested a type-s before i bought mine. your spending almost 40k that's the least they can do.i wouldn't buy a car unless i knew what i was getting into. i was originally looking at a regular tl but the dealer INSISTED i test the type-s and that's what sold it.

I don't know about where you are at but every dealer I went to basically threw me into the car to test drive it over and over even though I said I had already test drove it. I must have test driven every color for the Type S. lol

it's pretty funny, my sales guy was cool and when we drove it he told me to beat on it and even he beat on it when i didn't beat it up to his standards. i put $$ down that day. i go back to give them a certified check, my sales guy isn't there, and i get shit cuz of my age/way i dress. it went something like this.

salesguy:how old are you?
me:25
salesguy:and you want a type-s(roll's eyes)
me:yes sir,love the car
salesguy:you know it's almost a $40,000 car after taxes etc:
me:yes,i know
salesguy:you know if you test drive it i have to be with you and you can't push the car
me:i put $$ on one ALREADY. i ALREADY drove the car and was coming here to put more $$$ down on it. thanks.

this is when i got the royal treatment and a bottle of water either way with a cool salesguy or an ass you can drive it. you might not be able to beat the piss out of it but trust us, it moves!!

My salesperson (Saad) from Precision Acura let me test drive the TL-S with no hesitation. He pushed it to the limit and then pulled over and let me take it for a drive. We drove a few back roads and also took it on the highway. I'm 24 and he had no problem with letting me open it up. I actually test drove a WDP but went for the nighthawk black.. I'm actually wishing I went for the red one (can't think of the name of it) only because it would look sweet with a set of gold wheels and I have yet to see a red one on the streets. Nevertheless, good luck with your purchase. One test drive and I was in love.. If you head over to Precision Acura ask for Saad and tell him Brad sent ya.. Best of luck with your new ride, whatever it may be! WARNING:: If you decide to buy the TL-S.. you better get two, one for you and your wife, cause you wife is never going to let you drive it!

Are you surprised? I imagine the ratio of tire kickers vs buyers then get from younger people is quite high. I remember walking into high end dealers when I was younger and not even having a salesman come talk to me. I had to go hassle them to even get them to talk to me.

I think if you go with your wife to the dealership, they'll think you are serious mature buyer and they'll trust you with the TL-S. (i.e. not just a single guy looking to race a new car). Similarly, if she is more price-conscious than you about cars, you might be able to get a better deal -- because the sales staff would see that they need both to win both of you over.

In North Jersey, Open Road Acura at Wayne NJ had good prices and didn't play any games (i.e. none of the "that's a good price let me talk to my manager" talk).

I drove the TL once and the TL-S twice, all three times without the salesperson in the car with me. The only way to do it, IMO. (Salesperson didn't give me much attention the first 2 drives, and was a bit hesitant with the 3rd.) But then, I'm a bit older than you.
I was bummed they didn't have a MT for me to test, and decided to go with AT because I liked it so much and couldn't test the MT. OK, bring on the MT die-hards--that's all I used to drive, but still very, very happy with my final decision.

Dealer gave my wife and I a Type-S for the afternoon after walking into the dealership to "browse"...we didn't even ask for it - he insisted. 1) it's a sales technique to get us to come back when we said we had some things to do that afternoon and 2) it's a good way for the dealer to build rapport with someone that might be buying. She ended up passing on the Type-S and buying a TL w/Nav the same day.

Moral of the story - a dealer will do what it takes to make a profitable sale. We gave him a buying sign or two, he gave us his trust, we bought a car.

i test drove one today, i own a 05 TL and test drove the type S. i wasnt impressed i was expecting more noticable power, it is a lil stiffer than the normal one but yea just have her drive it, to me personally its not worth the extra 2000 for it, but thats because i cant afford it, if i could i would get it.

it was due to my credit or should i say lack of.what happened with me is I wanted to put 4-5k down (save some $$ for mods or a scratch )but my loan wouldn't go through for a type-s unless i came up with another couple thousand.i pay all my bills on time but never had a car/big loan.
