Dealer Lost my keys
Had my HFL changed on Friday. Went to pick up my car on Sat. and they could not find my keys. I didnt go nuts on the guy, and they said they would order me a new key w/ remote. Sounds good right? But, what if 6 months from now I wake up and my car is gone. How do I know some kuckle head from the dealership just didn't take my keys wait a bit to drive off w/ my car. Tell me I'm just paranoid.

Little paranoid - they would probably sell the keys to a 3rd party rather than steal the car on their own. Have them keep looking for the keys once you get your car back and ask for them to return them if found.

in order to program the imobilizer they need to program all the keys at once... when you get the new keys they will program them for you thus making the imobilizer chip in your lost keys useless... i think that even as they program your remotes they will also become inactive... although, they still would be able to get in your car with the key alone (unless you did the lock mod and have it covered.

When a new key gets programmed, it bumps off the Drive 1 key. Meaning, even if they do open your doors with the remote, they won't be able to start it with that key.
If you garage your car, you got nothing to worry about... if they lost your Driver 2 key, then make sure they bump that key off.

When they program the new key, that will render all previous keys useless. The immobilizer codes will not match and the old keys will not start the car.
However, they will still open your doors.
The remote transmitters are unaffected, as they are a separate system from the immobilizer.

I would want new locks and keys. Ever see Gone in 60 Seconds? You don't know who has that key and why. I don't care if they could start the car or not...they could still unlock it and get in it...and you're trunk. Not good.

Ya know, they lost one of the factory keys to my car when I bought it. So they cut me a new one, and I asked them to destroy the one they lost if it turns up.
Nothing has happened. *shrug*

If someone wants to take your car then they are going to take it. My manager had a Hummer H2 and it was stolen from the parking lot at work. He had taken it to get serviced at a dealership and then maybe about a week later it was stolen. The cops told him that somebody at the dealership probably made a copy of the key and looked up the vin and owner information. They were able to track down where he worked and stole it. We know that they had a key because in the security camera video it shows the lights blink when they unlocked the car with the remote. Five minutes later, you see the Hummer drive away. the cops said the reason they waited so long to drive away was because they had to disengage the OnStar. In the end the insurance covered his vehicle without any hassle because he was able to produce both sets of keys and the video. So it doesn't really matter too much if you lost your key, changed your locks, or still have both originals, if someone knows what they're doing, you car could get stolen.

That story is probably BS.
The only way that could be true is if the thief from the dealership cut a key, had a fob that would work with the Hummer, then programmed both the fob AND programmed the key to work with PATS. To do that, he would have had to have all the keys and fobs, or any not supplied wouldn't work.

Why do you think this story is BS? Think about it. Some people in this forum have bought FOB's from ebay and just programmed them themselves. It's really not too hard. True, if the car is reprogrammed, then all the keys have to be reprogrammed or they will not work. However, chances are that his spare keys probably didn't work anymore (who the hell goes home and tries their spare keys to make sure that they still work after getting the car serviced?). You could buy an oem remote off ebay for under $20. Any idiot can easily program it like the Acura remotes can. Having a key cut can also easily be done at the dealership. This story doesn't sound like bs to me.

It might sound stupid but I would do a police report. this happened to a good friend of mine and it turned out that the keys were stolen by a valet worker and sold to a car theif. Just a thought but I would cover my ass.

Well I went today and they said that they were reprogramming the new remote and the old one. They also said the lost one would not work anymore. I do keep the car in a garage, but the police report may not be a bad idea just to cover myself.
