dealer forgot to replace filler cap...

hey all, I just got back from the dealer this morning after having the trans fluid changed, only having to return to have them install the filler cap . I know this isn't the biggest problem in the world, but what is the likelihood of any damage/debris entering this area? I drove about 4miles, without the filler cap on... Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

i think you should be alright... but i think u should voice this concern to your dealer and have then give you the next drain and fill of your trans free... there is possibility of debris getting in there... but lets face it, all of our trannys aren't completed clean...

i can understand this occurring with a 10 min lube shop but not a dealership...

Thanks, KaMLuNg.. I agree, and they had given me a coupon for a free oil change, and couldn't offer anything else, I tried.. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

Hey I know this is real dumb, but where exactly where is the filler cap located. I checked my tranny fluid and it may be a little low, and since the car only has 8,000 miles on it, I was just gonna add a little tranny fluid, but wasn't just sure where the filler cap is.

Does the fluid go into the small hole where the dip-stick comes out of.
Sorry, but I warned you this was a dumb question.

I know, just take it to the dealer and have them add if necessary, right.

Just one more reason to do the work yourself.

Yes...you CAN add fluid at the ATF dipstick tube if you wish, expecially if its just a small amt....it will accompish the same task. Its easier to use the fill hole when doing a complete change though as it accepts fluid much faster. But if I was just adding a pint or something...I would do just as you mention....just use the dipstick tube and a small funnel. There are sometimes issues adding at the dipstick tube like....its hard to get a good reading on the dipstick right afterwards...but thats mainly on vans and vehicles with long horizontal runs on the ATF dipstick tubes...the TL doesnt have this issue so much...lol. A few dips into the tube and wipeoffs....and it will read just fine.

ATF needs to be checked while the car is running. Did you check the level with the car off?
