day at the tire shop in da bx..

i walk in to buy a new tire and they tell me 170 I say okay I also want my tire balanced he says 191 I go okay. they taking off my tires and he tells me I need another new tire I said no I don't just put it on the way it was. so im on the phone and he pulls me over and tells me I need new brakes(im getting pist the fuck off now cause I know they trying to rip me) so I tell him no I dont just put my tires on. do I really need new brakes at 8500 h.w. miles? I don't brake a lot. or was he trying to get money? so im pist I go down the street to another tire shop he tells me 140 for the same tire so I go back to the guy tell him take off the tire I can get it cheaper and he lowered the price. but do i really need new brakes?

^^^ Walk in confidence, especially in NYC shops.. Show them that you know exactly why are you there...otherwise...they will rip you off...

And hell no you don't need new brakes... 8500 miles? Common

Man, thats ridiculous... I just turned 70K on my factory pads/rotors on my 06 TL and my brakes are just starting to give. But I am extremely impressed with the amount of life I've gotten out of the stock setup. 70K miles with 90% of it being highway miles.

lol, i can't explain it man.. and I feel as though i brake pretty hard too... But yeah, they are just starting to give so I am on the market for new rotors and pads..

I've had the BEST luck with this car. The ONLY thing I've replaced was the stock tires, and even those lasted me thru 50K! But no other maintanance what so ever other then routine oil changes!! The last time I was at the dealer was the day I picked up the car. Lets hope that luck continues!

Extremely satisfied customer here!

Actually its not uncommon to recommend that at least 2 tires be changed when needing to changing only one if there is going to be a significant difference in tread wear between the new and old tire. Now if the other tires were fairly new you could forgo it.

It is a common practice at shops to recommend stuff. If it were truely dangerous most likely they would have made you sign something or at least informed you that they were not liable if anything happened since they informed you.
