Dateline follow-up and summary
Hi everyone,
Just got done watching the show. Nothing really new for those of us who know about the financing office from H_ll. Basically it encouraged a buyer to pay cash and get the loan pre-arranged through a credit union to get the best terms. Discussed the many add-ons such as protective coat, environmental handling etc. These are profit items for the Dealers as most of us know. Advising buyers to know the price they are willing to pay, interest rate (if getting loan from dealer source), months to payoff, etc before you sit down with the dealer folks. Give them a time limit to make a deal with you (one hour or so) and begin to get up if it hits your limit. Basically stay in control. Recognize it still takes the buyer to say yes before a deal is struck. Never sign an arbitration agreement when signing the mounds of paperwork if the loan is through the dealer. Focus on the price of the vehicle rather than the payments and terms. Go to the Dateline website to see the streaming video. datelinemsnbc.com
Hope this all helps those in need. Like I said at this beginning of my long winded memo, a lot of good information for those that are new to buying or live impulsively. As with a lot of things in life, the more planned and methodical you are the better you come out! Good luck everyone.

One of the more amusing moments was when the reporter went back to the finance guy, introduced herself, and told him about the hidden camera. Then she grilled him on some things he said, then she said "isn't that lying?". His response? He looks at the camera briefly then says rather sheepishly "uh, yeah, it was a lie".
That was such a hoot for me to watch. I thought about driving down to Charlotte to test drive a TL, then swing by Town&Country, pretend to trade my SporTrac in on a new one and tell them I saw them on tv. Wonder what they would say/do. LOL.
I saw video on MSN.com the whole show was 5 minutes?
Just how they scam u on months and interest rates?
That I knew, I usually come to dealer with eloan check..

anything else we should know about?
Resident rates are goo to have, but how to find them?
