I have to say thanx but not about the switchblade but the other good advice he puts up here.

Also, he gave me a call and helped me with my Dom's unit/DVD install and it was much appreciated. Not many people care to go that distance. Thanks man, I can see I am not alone in my gratitude.

what can i say thta hasn't been said yet? AJ, you've been a great help on this forum; especially with this recent switchblade key group buy.

let's hope there's another one soon, b/c i could use a mem 2 key! lol

btw, any chance mine will get here by Saturday? I'm going to visit my aunt/uncle near philly this weekend, and those places that were listed are charging A LOT less ($20 programming and $6 to cut) than places around Jersey ($140 for cut and program )

I just got my key today, and I'm waiting for my key to be cut and programmed right now at Tustin Acura...I didn't waste any time! Thanks so much!

The package arrived with comprehensive instructions, and I couldn't be happier. AJ, your hard work definitely shows!

got my key today! woot! looks great. and it even has the official ACURA logo on it. sweet! totally OEM style.

I do have one question though: in the diagram for the locksmith, it says that originally there was a "V" shaped stamp on the key, and that it was removed during the milling process. But mine appears to still have it. Is this indication of a potential problem? just checking to be sure before I schedule an appointment with the dealership to get the key cut.

cheers.

Got mine today also. I went to Palm Beach Acura but the key wouldn't fit in their machine. They suggested I try taking it to a Honda dealership so I went over to Ed Morse Honda and had it cut no problem. Best part was they did it for free.
Thanks csmeance

Yes, I did follow the instructions with putting the key in the door and the ignition (both ways), and it worked perfectly; however, when the dealership tried to cut it, we ran into problems.

Hopefully, there's some sort of workaround!

first of all just wanted to thank AJ for his hard work that probably will never end!

i got my key today and went straight to tustin acura. just when i was about to get mine cut a fellow azine member had just gotten his done. unfortunately he was having issues with his key. i didn't have the courage to try mine to see if my chances were better than his. pmed AJ and now awaiting further instructions.

also i wanted to note that tustin acura punches their blank keys based on a serial number from the master key. they do not use a machine that traces the original.

anyone else from la/oc county that had success or none at all?

A big is due to nemo121, he gave me the info that helped pinpoint the issue. That tustin punching machine = BAD!!! the key needs to be traced. Let me see if the tracer method works for him and some other members, then I;ll give the OK to cut, but for now DO NOT GET THEM CUT

looks like mine is a problem key. I have not gotten mine cut yet. per your instructions I tried fitting it into both the door and the ignition and neither will work. it goes in about a few centimeters, and then stops. I did not try forcing it any further as you recommended.

i'll contact you offline.

I'm too lazy, slow, and.... drunkity drunk drunk to find my original post. But, none the less - I agree 100% with this post.

And I am sure that the force will be with me when I get my key cut. Although I will be waiting for the magical instructions, I will be using a locksmith instead of the Acura dealership as they have already proven to me that their force is a farce.

Didn't you get the memo? Curious if they traced the old key or punched it when they cut yours? AJ is looking for a common denominator as to why they aren't working. I'm glad I was busy this afternoon or I probably would've had mine cut as well...sorry for your troubles man...I can relate.

That's a $350 paperweight you're looking at

did you hand them your orignal key? Did they need your VIN? Ask them if they traced the old key or if they cut it electronically.

Ha, that was me! Yes, now looking at the key, it's not an exact copy of my regular working one. I'm going to a local locksmith tomorrow to see if I can get it traced and get it working. It works in my glove compartment (I had to wiggle it around initially) but not in the driver door (had to remove my little shaved handle mod temporarily) and the ignition.

Initially, when they had problems, Tustin Acura asked me if I had changed my ignition, and it baffled the hell out of me until I found out about the method they use to cut the key. It should be simple, really--if you follow the test in the instructions (put the key all the way in both ways), all the locksmith has to do is make a carbon copy of your existing key.

It needs to be lubed up a little by the lock, and any burrs need to be removed. Try it in your door a few time and make sure it doesn't stick. If it does have them cut it again, any missed spots will be fixed.
