Cruise Control on Inner Streets (City Driving)??

I was wondering whether using cruise control on inner streets (city driving) has any effect on gas mileage?

For example, there are some roads here in Arizona that have a speed limit of about 35 - 40 mph, so I tend to just put my car in cruise control...even if it is for a few minutes or so...I do that so that way I know that I'm following the speed limit and because I just believe (mentally) that it would provide me with better gas mileage

Do other people do this as well? Any advantages/disadvantages in doing so?

i see no advantage to doing that, you're gonna be engaging and disengaging frequently, that can't be good for the car

And frankly, I can get better gas mileage without using the cruise control than with it. A person can anticipate traffic signals, hills, changes in speed limits, and traffic patterns, whereas the electro-mechanical gadget can't.

Every once in a while I use it on the street leading into my neighborhood. The speed limit is 25 and I sometimes set it at 30, in part to annoy the people who want to do 40 to 45 and will ride right up my tail. Putting on the cruise makes it easier to maintain 30.

Good for streets prone to speed traps, but i agree there are no benefits fuel-wise

I wouldn't say that this is a good idea... Making people mad these days isn't safe... too many road ragers out there.... Usually when you make people mad and/or annoyed they tend to drive worse after they have been agrivated by vigilant traffic police. Plus do you really want someone tailgating you?... doesn't sound like a fun game to me.

I don't recommend using cruise control in the city... i'd rather have more control of the vehicle at all times.. if you have it on cruise, then you have less control of the car... cruise control makes you more relaxed, and then you won't be as prepared for emergency maneuvers.

Given that I'm going to go 30 mph with or without the cruise control--hey, I'm not going to be the one who runs over some little kid who darts out into the street--I'm not sure what point you are making. I'm certainly not going to pull over and stop just because someone else wants to go faster. I'm talking about a residential street, not a highway (where I am happy to move to the right for faster traffic).

.. .I'm not saying to pull over, but I'm just saying that it isn't a good idea to try and make people angry while driving.
