Crazy pollen already...
Crazy pollen already...
The last four days there has been a fine coat of pollen on my precious TL. It's garaged at night but during the day the pollen is crazy. I guess just hosing it down every day or two and giving it a good wash each week is all I can do. Any other ideas?
Here in SoCal too, especially when it's windy. My car is constantly being covered with yellow pollen "dust". It was mentioned on here getting a Cali car duster which works great on pollen (so long as the car is dry of course).
Not to mention the alergies. The air filters must take a beating around this time of the year.
I have a cali duster, but never had the guts to go near my TL (bought it for my wife's sienna). Just wash weekly and a coat of wax.

I hardly see any info about 04TL's filter specification, anyone knows if our fitler is good enough to prevent the pollen-like stuff?
Usually, if the car makers say nothing about it, this means that device/product is just normal...
Thanks.

I'm sure that the TL has something close to HEPA filtering. I know that I can hardly smell deisel fumes now.
From the Acura website on the 04TL features:
Dual-zone, Dual-mode Automatic Climate Control System with micron air-filtration system

Funny I was behind something blowing blue smoke and smelled it, I doubt it is HEPA, but it is probably better than nothing.

GotJazz,
I saw that, too... but wonder why Acura never emphasizes that part, so I thought it's not quite good material or as good as it said...
Just my doubt.
BTW, I could smell something from outside sometimes.

yeah.. makes the Abyss blue look more like Sea Green.
The "Micron Filter" is good to near-hepa specs. But mind you, Hepa's and other filters don't get out smells, they get out particulates. Black Charcoal filters like some BMW's have are what get out smells.
So even a HEPA compliant one in the car wouldn't stop a stankin truck or ghetto-mobile, and gee, there's none of those here in georgia.
Do not ever forget to change those yearly tho, they plug up something serious. I keep my Accord changed every June, my vacation reminds me to do it each summer. And I did my 2000 TL the one year I had it.
It's not that difficult per se, but kinda quirky, it's up behind the glove-box. First time takes 30 mins, after that I had it to 5-10 mins change out.
Honda recently upped the price from $10 each (there's 2 halves) to $20 each, my last change at $40 about floored me.
I'm sure the labor to do it will be assinine as well if you get the shop to change them out.

OH yeah.. and forgot.. don't ever RUB the pollen. Pollen is a grit and it will scratch like nobody's business, hose it off. I don't even know if a light fluffy duster can do it w/o any pressure.
I about bi!ch slapped someone for drawing a word in my trunk in the pollen dust.. it became permanent in the wax after I washed it and I was ILL.
But take a look at the micron filters if you can after one year, they're black and just nasty.

I think the removal of the glove box is necessary. Mine should be repalced annually, too.
Agree, the first try will take some time, but you will get used to it soon.

(PS -- What % of owners do you think will forget to bother replacing the air filter?)

I went out to Pep Boys and bought a California Car Duster. Best $10 I ever spent on my car. Pollen comes off easily without rubbing and the car looks great as well. Will probably save on car washes in the long-run.
Thanks to all for the suggestion.

time to bring up an old thread-it is pine pollen season again. Car is covered. I can wash it and it is completely covered with 1/2 hour. Even the car in the garage has a dusting.
My eyes were driving me crazy yesterday. It's weird, some years it bugs me and some years it doesn't. This year a lot of the trees and plants all seem to be starting to flower at once, maybe because it's been such a warm March, and so it seems a lot worse. I think trying to keep up with it is fighting a losing battle, and in my case if the pollen is really bad I won't be able to stand being outside for any length of time trying to wash the car thoroughly. I just wait until the worst of it is past and give it a full wash and wax.
