I took my 2005 TL in for the wiper motor recall. I got the car back and the dash is crack. The crack is in two places. One crack is directly on the speaker mesh right in from of the driver. The other crack is on the same piece but 6 inches away over a seperate speaker mesh. The dealer denied having to touch the dash for the recall but I know the cracks were not there before I took the car in. Does anyone have any idea of how this could have occured? Do they have to open the dash up to get the wiper motor out? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Follow the instructions at the top of the thread, then access TSB 08-013. That'll give you the instructions for the Wiper Motor replacement. I doubt if the dash has anything to do with it, but if so, it'll be in the instructions.

If you search defective dashes for 3rd Gen TL's you will find a wealth of information. 3rd Gen TL's are notorious for their dashes cracking for no reason. There is even a Facebook page about it. You can try to get them to good will some or all of the cost, if not its like 800 bucks to repair and replace it.

 

I think the whole top dash would have to be replaced...... Not cheap.

 

Technically, doing the recall would not cause the dash to crack. Negligence in maintaining it & the obvious faulty dash are the two reasons why it cracks. Thankfully, no matter what, if the dash cracked at the dealerships hand they are responsible for most, if not all, of the bill. Complain to the GM and call Acura Corp.
