Is there a specific brand of coolant i should be using, or just any kind. My reserve is getting low.

Thanks

You should use the genuine Honda stuff - you can buy it at a Honda dealer if that's more convenient.

Why is your reserve getting low?

It is not supposed to get low under normal conditions.

You may have a problem.

The reserve is just above the minimum mark and it has been like that for a few months really has not changed so I am pretty sure I dont have a problem. I just wanted to top it off.

Actually, I do the engine compartment inspection religiously as part of re-fueling. The coolant reserve tank level has been right at Min and then as the weather has gotten colder, it went below min by a 1/4 inch. Then, just this week the reserve tank was empty.

The dealer tested the coolant for CO, and it was inconclusive. Just fyi.

Honda Type 2

Honda uses a non-silicate/boron fomulation, which prevents erosion of the head, water pump impeller, etc. I have pictures I got from AHM engineering that shows the damage done to aluminum parts by typical "green" antifreeze. It acts like sand blasting to damage soft metal parts, and is completely obsolete for hi-tech components like Honda engines.

Type 2 is already tittrated with distilled water - you just use it - no mixing.

It is still toxic to animals, so observe the usual precautions with it - also, please dispose of it properly.

They have added a bittering agent to it (these glycols are sweet), but a small child or animal need not consume a lot to become ill.

Now, these fluids are tight, but 10 year servuice life? Not in my car - i will change it once at 30k miles, then every 60k after that. But I do oil analyses regularly, so if I see "insolubles" in the oil, i will check to see if coolant is leakig into the oil.
