Contemplating an '08 TL

I've had an '06, and I miss it. There's an '08 up for sale with 75k on it. Asking price is $16k. The car is incredibly clean, overall. It has a clean Carfax. It also had the timing belt done last year at 56k.

I know the '06 had some transmissions concerns. Have they been ironed out in the '08? Any other issues or concerns I should know about?

Thanks in advance.

The '07-'08 have a revised automatic transmission that does not seem to be so problematic so far. No other terrible issues, same small ones as '04-'06.

Yes, the 07/08 transmission has been improved.

I don't remember hearing much about transmission failures in them.

Any idea why the timing belt was replaced at 56K?? Seems awfully early.

^good point. I would definitely ask the seller this question. It has been about 7 years though, maybe that's why.

Excellent question about the belt. I asked the dealer the same thing. He claims he had no idea. It's on a Lincoln lot, so he likely doesn't know.

Thanks for your input thus far!

Yep. Apparently some goon was swayed by Matthew McConaughey enough to actually buy a Lincoln!!

Should be safe to assume that the car was owned by a mature person, maybe an elder.

That's good news.

Eric, if they had no idea about the belt, have them throw in an extended service policy to cover it.

Thanks Steven. I know it was done, as it's on the Carfax as being completed by an Acura dealer. What would the benefit be of them covering it?

In case something goes wrong, you wouldn't have to pay out of your own pocket.

I think you should be able to get it for less than 16k too.

I believe Steven is suggesting an extended warranty to cover the car (it) in case there are any other issues that pop up.
