Concern with new TL

I test drove two different new 2005 TL's from two differenct dealerships, both with the 6 speed and I experienced the same problem. Under hard acceleration at about 50mph I felt a vibration that shook the entire car. The salesman during the second test drive said it was just a tire out of balance. At first I thought I was on a rough road but the problem was consistent at different locations with both cars.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem or was it just coincidence that I had this problem with two different TL's.

Thanks.

I would go back and look at the mileage on those TL's, if it's over 200 or so that means that usually new car salespeople will take them for the weekend, it's possible they ragged them out, hit a pothole or something like that. I assure you the ride at all speeds and RPM's should be nothing short of silky smooth whether it's 6MT or 5AT.

Sounds to me like both cars sat on the lot for a while and each had a bad case of tire flatspots. Did you drive either car very long?? Mine at their worst will vibrate for over 10 min. until nice and hot.

The cold tires definitely will do that. I also think that in the 50-60 mph range the engine is turning such a low gas-sipping RPM that the 'lugging' of the engine causes shaking though the engine mounts. This vibration is very common with the 3G TL's. My solution is to accelerate nice and hard till I hit 60. :-)

What gear were you in @ 50 mph

Whatever the manual says, don't expect any kind of pulling power in 6th at that speed. Do expect lugging.

Thanks for the replies. After reading the comments and searching a bit I'm sure the problem was the tires. On both cars I drove I noticed the problem when I first started driving. I was pushing it pretty hard most of the time - that's why they call it a test drive. I'm sure it was not the engine lugging.

The only problem now is finding the car I'm looking for. I want a silver 6 speed with the black interior and the navigation system. I've checked all the local dealers with no luck (I'm in the Cincinnati area). They can order one for me but it will take until June. I've driven my Camry for 10+ years, a few more months won't kill me but it sucks now that I want the TL.

Tell me if you think this is a good deal. The sticker, including destination for the 6speed w/ navigation is $35,670. The dealership had the same set-up but the wrong color and I would have paid $33,600.

I was convinced on Saturday that I was going to buy a G35. I went into the Infiniti dealership with my checkbook in my hand but I was not impressed with the overall interior and the performance was not as great as I expected. Plus the salesman was an ass. I drove the TL and was immediately sold.

I like the exterior look of the G35 coupe and the brakes (standard shift), that's it.
I test drove the G35 first, and then the TL, then the G35 again, then I realized I wanted all the features and interior of the TL, and was sold.

I bought a 6MT in Nov 2003, once I change the tires to Falken ST-115, 18 inch, I've been happy since. no vibrations from 0 to 132, just normal engine rev noise.
enjoy

Search "vibration" on the 3rd Gen Tl boards and you'll quickly surmise that you shouldn't buy the vehicle. I have a 04 TL early build and have had the vibrations for 15 months. Stay away.

Wildcat-

Do you still have the original tires on your TL ? It sounds like different tires can eliminate the vibration.

I see you're in Cincinnati also. Have you taken it back to the dealership for this problem? How was the dealership to deal with and which dealership did you purchase the car from?

Thanks.
