Cold start: TL sounds like its running on BATTERIES??

NY winters suck! Now that I have THAT out the way...
I just noticed the past couple weeks that when I start my car in this cold, cold weather it sounds kinda like my TL is running on electric/batteries!? Especially when I accelerate (after I warm up a few minutes).

Any insight?

Like an electrical motor whirring sound, you mean? That's likely the auto trans. My '02 TL-S occasionally sounds like this.

When's the last time you flushed the trans? It might be time.

In any case, lots of auto trans from all makes/models make this sound faintly. It's not a big deal, so long as it's not loud.

hmm...i was thinking about changing over to synthetic tranny fluid so maybe now is the time?
as for drivebelt, we'll see if the fluid doesn't fix the problem...
thanks for the input!

hit it right on the head. Its the trans that does this and it's completely normal. Every TL I have seen and driven have had this.
