Clutch/flywheel Job, any input.

I am about to take on the job of replacing my clutch/flywheel. Is there anyone who has done this that can give some pointers or a link to a thread I DID SEARCH.

Also I do know you are to have a special tool to do it but I do not have it, does anyone have it that they would loan? I asked Acura and of course they said NO!

Thank you for your .

its not that hard just very time consuming. afterall it is a fwd car your going to have to drop the motor a little to reach the tranny. not really any special tools needed but two jacks. have atleast a friend or two help you out when you do it can be heavy goodluck

What is this "special tool" you rtalking about? Is it the flywheel ring gear holder? Is it the clutch-disc alignment tool?

BTW: The transmission must come out. I'm not 100%, but I think that means the lower aluminum subframe on this car must come down along with poping lower ball-joints and removing axles. If your going to be tackling a job like this, get yourself the OEM Helm shop manual. It's the best $60 you can spend if your going to be doing major work on your car. Those Chiltons and Hayns manuals are like coloring books compared to this thing. It's 1600 pages devoted to your one year of car...

Here's a link to the 04-06 service manual:

How many miles you got?
A small shop told me they'd do the install for like 300 or 350

Also how much were the parts?

Replace the pressure plate so you have even wear all around. also, replace the throw out bearing. what is oe weight on flywheel? do some research, our flywheel may help balance the motor. I don'tknow too much about Acuras specifically. changing something too drastically can lead to major motor damage without compensating (for example, go with a lighter harmonic balancer to balance out the weight).

I believe the harmonic balance is designed to work at a specific rpm window, and not so much in conjunction w/ rotating mass. In fact, A lightweight flywheel doesn't really have any negative ramifications other than making the car slightly more difficult to drive & shift. The reduced rotating mass resisting crank deflection at one end can actually reduce crank harmonics at every rpm...

As for the negatives, Revs drop faster which makes low rpm shifting more difficult, and the loss of mass makes the car more difficult to leave the line, especially with the AC cycling on & off. All of which simply take a little getting used to...

I think it is prob going to be the ring gear tool. Dont quote me on this but since we have a dual preasure plate on out TLs it is supposed to help get it in place correctly. I do know the subframe has to come off along with the axels and many many other small parts. This is supposed to be an 11 hour job for ACURA but I am going to allocate myself an entire week, hell maybe two. Thanks for the helms link but I have a buddy who is going to be getting everything off of ALLDATA for me it included the tool and part number for it. I might buy the helms manual anyways tho is could be an invaluble tool at some point.

So far I have spent $500 for the exedy clutch.
and $600 for the flywheel.
