Climate Control with a mind of its own

Anyone else got this wierd one?

With the climate control set to bi-level and the engine is cold (< 32 degrees), upon start up the blower comes on full. When you switch the climate control to 'auto' the blower shuts off until the engine warms up. Could this be a faulty engine coolant temperature sensor that shorts when cold??

Where is your fan control set to? If it is not on auto, the fan speed should be controlled manually and not by the computer, so it will blow at the level it is set at.

Fan control is set to auto. Only the output is set to bi-level. I can manually force the system to any setting but it seems strange that when left to its own devices, it turns the fan on high when the temp is low... I have to remember to bundle up before starting the engine when its cold outside ...

When you start the cars, what icons are displayed on the a/c screen?

What are your settings when you turn the car off? I seem to remember that it is supposed to hold the settings it had most recently. (i.e. if the fan was on high when you shut it off it will stay at high when you turn it back on.)

Doesn't it recall what you have in Memory? ( 1 or 2). Whatever that is set to, that is what it will be when you turn on your car.

Put the settings where you want them and then reset your memory.

Doesn't selecting bi-level or any other output disengage the automatic feature?

I think you are right. It seems to work that way on my TL. It just proves that you can't outfox the puter.

If defrost is selected (maybe in bi-level mode too, I never tested it) it automatically puts the fan speed on high regardless of whether the car has warmed or not. I guess if you are in bi-level, you technically are not in auto mode???

The memory settings from your key fob resets the climate control to whatever it was set at when stored. You might have thought you were just changing a seat position but changed climate control settings as well.
Set everything the way you want it then store those settings into memory. Whatever climate control settings you enter will be restored when ever you unlock with that fob.

Once again, the memory setting feature only works when a different key fob is used to unlock the doors.

If you set your preferences using key fob 1, and then change the settings, the next time you unlock the door the settings will not revert to what they were when you set them, but if key fob 2 is used to unlock the door, the settings will change to whatever they were the last time keyfob 2 was used. Then, the next time that keyfob 1 is used to unlock the doors, the settings will change to whatever they were
set at the last time keyfob 1 was used to lock the doors.

I think it must be related to the defrost mode selection. When I shift the outlets to floor only, the blower shuts off. Its only in bi-level and defrost when the blower switches to high even when the car is cold.

Yes, it is definitely related to defrost mode. I actually have noticed that recently myself.
