I also use 76 at its highest octane available, and part of my reasoning is because of the whole "racecars use it, so it must be the best." Since I'm about 30 - 40 miles south of you (I'm in Santa Cruz), I see very similar gas pricing, unfortunately. It's well over $3.10 per gallon now for premium.

If using 89 to save a few dollars- add Lucas fuel cleaner to tank each time- a few onces- to boost the octane to 91+ for you

OFFICIAL FUEL OF-----IS WHAT MAKES RACERS USE IT- they have no choice

Thats like saying OEM parts are the very best for your car

Then why are we all upgrading the brakes and shocks oil and air filters etc??

They get a deal on it- thats why its the official fuel!

TLs are not real fond of Ethanol- the Earth is not fond of MTBE
Whadda ya gonna do?

Chevron because of Techron...my wrench friends say it works best for cleaning...a tec friend at Ford dealer says they have a bulletin for Chevron use...just my choice....

either one is better than the discount brands...have a friend that is a gas distributor for Texaco/Chevron and he says the discount brands do not have the same level of additives and some not filtered as well to get junk out...ie not top tier to say the least...cracks me up to see the high $ cars at the discount pumps...

Yeah, I'm curious how much those fuel cleaners cost, what? $20 a gallon? Regardless, I highly doubt the amount you save in a tankful of 89 vs a tankful of 91 <= cost of a bottle of fuel cleaner.

Lucas Fuel Cleaner in the Quart bottle is 8 dollars on sale,
I do not have the exact doseage numbers yet- but right on the bottle its listed as a use.
It would save money when used correctly.

Using ballpark info at 2 oz per tank thats 16 tanks so...50 cents per tank to save 40 cents a gallon (87 vs 91) = thats 6 dollars per tank
hmmmm

is it even worth it to use shell card with gas being $3 now? and shell being about 20 cents more expensive? i mean is it worth it to use the shell card as oppossed to less expensive gas like arco... besides the gas quality between the two..

QuikTrip BABY! I work for QT full-time and that's how I afford my TL. QT Gas has "IQ" which is the same thing as Shell's "V-Power".. but QuikTrip blends 2.3 times more of the additive than the "leading competitors." My Acura dealer fill all their cars up with QT and I'm pretty sure so does every other dealer down the same street. And of course, I use the 93 octane.

The TL runs better and actually goes futher on a tank with Chevron or Shell or 76 than
am/pm gas. I tried it and its cheaper to pay more up front, plus am charges you to use debit card and that eats the price diff.

Chevron has a good website and I have seen the car show display with valves removed from engines run on each brand of gas, want some dirty valves- go to the bigbox stores!
Chevron w/Techroline- a known good fuel cleaner addative you can buy at auto parts store
had the cleanest parts.

so your saying 2 oz of this stuff raises the octane of a 15 gallon tank from 87 to 91?

C'mon man, 76 saying its the official Nascar fuel is pure marketing. Techron and V-Power however actually are detergents that will help clean your fuel injection system.

Plus Nascar engines... no, make that all race engines in professional motorsports are usually rebuilt after every race.

My car seems to have extra zip with 76 compared to Shell V power but that detergent thing is something to think about. Maybe I'll give Shell another try.

...and those cute little Techron cartoon cars aren't pure marketing? Get real.

Racing engines are rebuilt after every race because they spend three hours at 6,000+ RPM; they're rebuilt irrespective of what kind of gas they use.
