check engine light blinks???

[SIZE=2]I have noticed at a constant high RPM (usually in second gear) my check engine light will blink for about 10 seconds and then turn off. It did it before and after I installed my Injen CAI. Anyone else have the problem and have they had it checked into?undefined

The ECU is likely seeing something it doesn't like, perhaps a temporary lean fuel trim. If it were my car, I'd hook up my dynamic scanner and see what temp diagnostic codes may be in process. Mother Acura may be angry - sacrifice a limb.

How long have you had the car? The older 3rd Gens (October/November of last year) had problems w/ their ECU's. I too had the blinking engine light and took it in and the dealer reflashed the ECU.

This just happened to me .. i have 11,000 miles on my car and this is the first time it happened. I was going about 20mph and I dumped it into 1st (automatic tranny) and let it rip and then shifted into second where it started flashing.

When it blinks it usually means the rev limiter has been activated because you have gotten to the maximum rpm point. Did you feel the engine cutting in and out until you got the revs down?

I did not feel the rev limiter.. in fact I was several hundred rpms under the limiter, and one time was at 4000 rpms in 2nd gear while it blinked.

The only time it ever did it to me at 4,000 rpms in 2nd gear was the time I tried using regular gas as a test, and found out this is what will happen with 87 octane. Another answer could be a defective knock sensor, or perhaps some other sensor or part of the emissions system. Either way, it isn't supposed to happen so it should be checked out.

Either flash the ECU or defective crank angle sensor. Search the threads...Many on this topic.

Me Too

I had my engine check light come on for a few seconds. I was shifting from 2nd to 3rd when I noted the light. I see the Dealer this Friday.

I have about 10,000 miles on my TL.

I only have 400 miles on mine and the same thing happened to me. I will be talking to the dealer this week to see what he says.

I have 7000 miles and definitely noticed it today, when going wide open throttle at about 30 miles per hour. The first couple times I thought I might have just imagined it, as I caught a glimpse of a flash, but by the time I looked it was gone (WOT during those times as well). Today, I got a good enough look to see it was the engine light, but just flashed a couple times real quick maybe a second or two and was gone. Could it just be the car is just pulling timing and shows the light, or should I have the car checked. I have 5AT and it was in drive the times this happened, so don't think the car would allow itself to hit the rev limiter.

Post your Diagnosis

Alright, had the flashing MIL light many times during "spirted", higher RPM driving. The first time I noticed it was a month or two after I got my car, so around late Feb. or early March of this year. Anyway, when I brough the car in I was told the code in the car was for an F-CAN communications error. Nobody at the dealer knew what this code meant or what triggered it. They told me their little manual descrived the issue as some sort of a communication failure between some of the cars electronic systems. I then told them I read about an ECU flash on this webpage but they insisted I had the current software.

Anyway, I've been living with the light for about 8 or 9 months now and I am very curious what is causing everyone else to have this problem and if there is a solution. The light is only mildly annoying, but everytime it goes off I wonder if there is a misfire or something going on that I really should be getting looked at by the dealer.

Best of luck to all with this one. It looks like a common problem that one would have hoped could have been fixed in newer cars. BTW my VIN is in the very low 20xxx range.

It's not normal.. sounds like the bug of the early built TL's came back. First ones like mine were faulty Crank Angle Sensors causing engine misfires, then they started fixing it by reflashing the ECU to ignore the misfires and not throw up the MIL . Go get it checked. If it is misfires, you are sending unburnt fuel thru your (expensive) cats which will pollute the platinum and other metals and shorten the life of them.

And yet another time HondaAcura revisits the past with errors they choose not to fix. Go America.

Check engine flash

My check engine light has come on twice since I had my TL. It flashes for about 10 seconds and then stops. My car has about 6900 miles on it. I bought mine in May 04 so it's NOT an early VIN. The light only came on when I accelerated hard (basically flooring it)

update.

I got the light came up twice, but when I got to the dealer, no fault code was found. So no fix. Really sucks.

Your post was very interesting to me. After having some pretty major work done on my 04 TL's engine due to loss of coolant (4500 miles), I had the car back from Wed until Sunday with no obvious porblems. On Monday AM, the engine light came on and stayed on as did the VSA indicators. Thye had me drive it back to the shop (approx 30 miles) and i noticed some "jerkiness or lurching"during shifting (auto). They originally thought it was the O2 sensor but now are saying they get a code for crank angle sensor failure. Upon reflection, I did notice some soot around the exhasut pipes after I got it back and did occasionally notice the smell of unburned gas. The car was fine until I took it back for the oil jet installation and that led to the loss of coolant which rersulted in new heads, etc, etc.

Crank angle sensor replaced

They kept if for 4 days, replaced the crank position sensor and so far it's been running like a charm. Maybe the long battle is over??

I can't say enough good things about the way I was treated even though the waiting for parts seemed inordinately long. Can't complain too muich becuase the loaners were nice cars and they threw in a set of all weather mats at no charge ppus did a nice job of detailing the car at no charge!

I had the crank andlge sensor replaced as well... the light flashed a bit the other day.

Dealer says I have to remove the remote starter in my car because he claims that can affect the check engine light, wtf?
