Check engine light

I have a 2004 TL, when I went to pass a car on the highway my check engine light came on and stayed on. Gas cap is on tight, oil level ok, air filter is clean. Has this happened to anyone else.

it will be hard for anybody here to help you, i would highly suggest going to your dealer, it should only take them a couple minutes to get the diagnostic code to find out what it may be.

I believe there have been some posts in the past regarding the check engine light coming on during times of hard acceleration. The light could be on for one of several hundred different reasons, so as mentioned earlier it is best to just run it by the dealer to put a scanner on it.

Yes, early build TLs 04 had a recall for that...but with the hard acceleration, the check engine light turned off if i remember correctly...

Same thing happened to me. The first time it happens it blinks and cuts off. The second time is stays on. When I took it to the dealer the first time, they said there was an update from honda and it took about 2 hours to reprogram the computer. That didn't seem to fix it and I took it back after it happened again and they said I need to have it happen again where the light stays on. So I have enjoyed trying to get it to try and happen again, but without luck; the car seems need to be warm or have been running for a while before it happens to me. Post here if you learn anything more, and I'll do the same.

Thanks!

There are some decent threads inside the GARAGE. You would find lots of info about this MIL issues.

This occured to my 2004 TL Auto in December 2004. There is a service bulletin concerning this issue. My check engine light also remained on. After the prom was reloaded with a software update, my car seemed to have more lower end power during acceleration from a stop or merging on the interstate. Also the gas mileage went up 3-4 mpg.

As other's said, took a few hours for them to complete, but the dealer loaned me a tsx loaner and I didn't have to wait at the dealership.

Took my tl to the Acura dealership this AM. Said they had to reprogram the ECM/PCM and now it was OK. but I left it overnight for them to check a bass rattle I had in the rear deck and another rattle I had by the rear dome light, sounded like a wire tapping on the headliner. When I get the car back I can let you know if it acts different

My 04 TL is currently at the dealership with a check engine light problem.
They found oxygen sensor malfunction.

it's one of the possible factors. Hopefully it won't take long to fix it.

Got my car back today. The service Mgr. said the PCM had to be reprogramed because the parameters were too narrow. It may be just my imagination but it feels like it has more go power.

It seems to be the good news. You aren't the first one saying so, there are a few people having the same feeling... after 04-016 TSB.

Usually, the dealer won't apply this TSB if there is nothing wrong with the car... I'd like to feel it...
