Cheapest car insurance company side by side?

My 6 month policy with Progressive is going to be coming up the beginning of August and I was wondering if anyone here has called and compared rates between nearly all of the major insurance companies (Geico, Progressive, State Farm, SafeAuto, Nationwide, Farmers, Big Farmers, Little Farmers, Cow Farmers, etc)

Right now, at 22 years old with great credit and nothing on my driving record whatsoever, I'm paying $576 for a 6 month policy in advance. This is with a multi-vehicle discount & some customer loyalty thing for people who have been with them for more than 2 years.

Geico called me the other day and quoted me $372 for the same exact coverage that Progressive offers me. I was like !! More than $200 cheaper for the same exact coverage, and from what I hear on this forum, a much better insurance company. I have heard horror stories about Progressive not cutting a check quickly and being thickheaded when it comes to claims. Geico on the other hand I have heard nothing but good things and people have told me they are easy to work with.

I'm not going to pay MORE money for a lesser insurance company.

Any thoughts?

I like Geico and all, but I had an accident in my Expo (backed into a parked 92 Toy Cam at a slow rate of speed, in a blizzard) and the claim was $1600.

Geico jacked my rate and extra $50 per month and then sent a letter telling me that if I dropped myself off the insurance that the rate would only go up another $20 per month?!?

I can't recall the last time I had any kind of claim against my car insurance, maybe 8-years ago and it wasn't even Geico.

I have been considering switching to eSurance (owned by Allstate now) as I found a similar opportunity. There was a significant savings from them vs Geico for the same coverage.

I get nervous though as I want to make sure I am "taken care of" regardless of cost, although I am not wanting to get ripped off either.

NO PERSON IS EXACTLY THE SAME.
there are just too many variables that get accounted for when coming up with an estimate/quotes.

your best bet is to call them and get quotes.

I would stay with one of the big named companies.
also every ones experience is different when handling claims.
one person could have an awesome time with Geico, while his neighbor gets the short end of the stick.

^agree however dont knock out the smaller name. Most big companies see you as a number ($$$); while smaller ones see you as an individual.

Try eSurance (part of Allstate now) as well. Their rates are supposedly quite good.

I'm through State Farm. I would say they're fairly priced. I was actually surprised they were about $20-$30 cheaper than most that I checked. Progressive was quite a bit more. I agree with what the other guy said about local companies. My mom has liability through a local company and you can't beat the price.

But it really depends on a bunch of things. there really is no way to know besides calling around and getting quotes.

Called 12 different insurance companies today and got quotes. Nothing came close to touching Geico's rate for me. Supposedly they said they could offer such low rates for me because my particular area is a very low risk area for them.

They came in at $298 for 6 months paid in full. $100,000 bodily damage and $50,000 property damage. Includes roadside assistance and rental car reimbursement also.

I was with Progressive before and paying $576 for 6 months for the same exact coverage.

Nope, full coverage.

Both deductibles are $500. Not sure what you're asking me beyond that.

I just did a quote with esurance and they're about $400 cheaper than AAA annually, given the same limits of coverage and deductibles (approx $610/6 months).

Damn I hate NJ. I pay $840 for 6 months. My girl has NJ Manufacturers, they don't do the 6 month thing. She has a 2010 Nissan Rogue and pays friggen $90 a month and only pays 9 months out of the year and then gets a divdend check at the end of the year!! I gotta get my ass on her policy!! That's cheap as shit for someone in NJ.

I just bought a policy with state farm. Had progressive. State farm premium is half of what I was paying with progressive.

the one thing you have to look out for with cheaper rates is not the coverage but things like what kind of parts are they going to put on your car when its wrecked .. you are probably going to get all aftermarket parts on you car with that rate ,and there is nothing you can do about it you sign that its ok to use them .. be warned and ask lots of questions.

I am in the collision industry and i see a lot of upset customers that did not know a lot of stuff about there policy

i know with state farm if your accident free for 10 years the forgive your first accident and do not raise rates

I'm gonna have to start looking for new insurance. My policy is about to expire and from what I heard about progressive, I don't want to stay with them. Does anyone know much about America family Insurance? My quote from them was half of what I am paying to progressive.

If you're a Costco member, I would check out Ameriprise from the Costco Web site. Their rates beat out 21st Century which in turn beat out State Farm based on my experience.

I had Progressive for the last 4 years or so and decided to finally shop for quotes this past May and I ended up at Travelers which was much cheaper and with higher coverage amounts. They did however raise my rate after the first six months already. I liked Progressive's website because you can do almost anything to your policy yourself. Traveler's site is quite the opposite.

I had 7 years in with Progressive when I bought my TL-S and, replacing a vehicle on the policy, my rate went up almost $400.

Switched to USAA just like I kept telling myself I was going to do.

I would be careful with geico. I had a friend from work who had a cavalier totaled. It took over 2 months to get the check for the car (they claimed they were waiting on the police report) and by that time he owed the entire value of the car to a garage for storage costs.

I checked with Geico and they would only use aftermarket parts, and only use OEM if there are no other options. American Family was ok for the last several years, but a few things lately made me switch. Progressive or Country Financial, who I switched to, were cheaper and said they used OEM parts.

As per consumer reports, Amica insurance has been rated one of the best. I personally have Geico cause Amica is usually on the more expensive side. Geico has been awesome the two times that I needed them. However, they put up a fight when trying to use OEM parts.

In my experience, Allstate has amazing service and decent rates. Currently with Country Financial and very happy with the rates and service. USAA is quite a bit cheaper for my car, but almost double for my home owners so I have stuck with Country.

I can for sure vouch for the quality of service from USAA which is what my wife has. They will try to use aftermarket and/or used parts, but any complaints from the customer and they will put OEM on it. Allstate put used OEM parts (bumper core, bumper skin, sunroof) on one of my previous cars as well.

Posting exact amounts and such is completely pointless in this discussion. Unless you are the same age, with the same credit rating, with the same car, with the same zip code, and the same discount structure, it will probably be a different rate for each person.

My type-s is about $800/year with $250 deductible with Allied Insurance, but I also have multi-car and house insurance. I have about one or two points on my record. My area should be around the medium risk area.

Geico is most def a keeper for me. $140 per month and $130 when i finish take this online defensive driving course for full coverage in New York city is darn good. I think the reason why Geico quoted you that amount could either be due to little years of driving experience. The longer you have your license and with out penlites to it, the lower your cost will be, especially for a high end vehicle.
