cheaper to keep her!

Went to my local acura dealer today. Test drove tl's 6sp, anyone who thinks the notorius 3rd gear problem is solved is sadly mistaken. It took my first 4th to 3rd downshift grind to figure that out! It did not shift as good as my 06 6sp especialy since I changed my mtl to redline mtl. After my test drive I went in to see what kind of deal I could get trading in my 06 6sp nbp navi tl, they told they would give me 25500 for my car! What a reality check! No way do I think a tl's is worth my car & $12000.I drove away feeling good because the tl's did not blow me away, in fact mine seems to ride smoother and the extra hp was not evident driving normally.Guess i'll wait for 2009 and see what they come up with.

Anyone who trades in their '05, '06 are gonna lose a ton of money on the trade in. I was STRONGLY considering trading in my '05, when my Acura stealership brought me back to reality with an insulting trade in offer (21,000 for 17K miles?). I'll just wait for the '09 or '10 (let them work out the kinks), by then my '05 will be about paid for, and I'll end up getting what I hope to be, a much better TL than the current TL-S. Unless you're leasing, it really doesn't make sense to buy the TL-S when you know a better TL is on the way in another year and a half or so.

I don't think that I got screwed too bad on my trade...

I owed $27,000 on my 06 TL; the dealership gave me $28,500 for it and I paid $35,900 for the TL-S.

Unless one leases, I do not see the logic in trading in cars every 2-3years. Anyways, to each his/her own. I plan on keeping my 05 AT TL for at least 5+ years. I grew up w/ Honda's/Acura's in my family and those are some damn reliable cars, especially used.

I agree. Unless there is a complete change in the model it really doesn't make sense/cents.

The funny thing is that everyone who traded in their '04 - '06 TLs for the TL-S or '07 base are going to be kicking themselves in '08 when the new 4th Gen TL debuts. We all know that it's going to blow the doors off the current TL because Acura has to compete with new vehicles by Lexus, Infiniti and BMW 3 series. After taking this into consideration and the bullshit trade-in offer, I've decided to wait.

How much did you lose out of pocket though - Original '06 price versus trade in price?

I thought of trading in my 06 for a WDP TL-S...yeah...then I woke up and realized that was nowhere near the most economical thing to do...but everytime I think of a WDP TL-S on black wheels I do get sad

What I paid out of pocket from the time of purchase to the time of trade-in was $4109.32 (cost to own). This is including payments, accessories and services.

And yes you're right that was a loss but keep in mind that my 06 TL had been involved in a wreck when it was only 2 months old. So for me the peace of mind in having a new car that I love versus a wrecked car that I liked was worth the cost.

Bottom line is that my wife and I are happy. We feel secure in our choice and safe in our car.

its only slightly off topic, but i just traded my 04 NBP 6spd with 49k on it for an 04 WDP aspec 6spd w/ 19k. They gave me $22,500 for my NBP. So I dont know what the deal is with the "stealerships" you guys are talking about, but the most powerful thing you can have in any deal is the ability to walk away from it.

Just because you didn't get ripped off doesn't mean it's not happening to others. I've had my '05 TL w/navi for 1 yr 5 mos. and had 17k miles on it with NO dents, scratches to the exterior and the interior was in great condition too. So for them to offer me $21000 for my car towards the trade in for a '07 TL-S was fucking crazy. So that's why I used the term "stealership", because the shit applies. But like you said, it is too easy to walk away and that's what I did. But you can't tell me that if you were in my situation that you would feel insulted. I know dealers have to make money, and it's their job to give you as little as they can within reason for your trade in. But what I was offered was not a fair deal, it's obvious that they were trying to rip me off. Hell, you got more for your trade in than I got offered for mine, and your car was a year older and had a whole lot more miles than mine. I wonder what they'll offer me in '09, $5000? (being sarcastic) lol!

Ac Man - I get where you're coming from. The first dealership I went to offered me $25,000 on trade and wouldn't drop below $38,000 for the TL-S. It was exactly like you said; insulting! I feel your frustration. But if you really want it keep emailing dealerships until you find one that will work with you. Gunn Acura of San Antonio was the eighth dealership I had to go to to get a decent offer and I even had to think their proposal over for a couple of days. If you chose to pursue it I wish you the best.

I've decided to wait for the next gen TL because I know it will much better than our current TLs and the TL-S. And like the topic of this thread states, it really is cheaper to keep her! I'm not knocking those who have taken a big or small loss by trading in for a TL-s, because I was about to do the same thing, but I want more than what the '07 TL has to offer. I believe that I will get what I want out of the '09 TL's features and performance. I'm not going to switch over to Lexus, Infiniti or anybody else because I'm a Honda/Acura loyalist, so my next vehicle will be a TL or the next RL.
