Changing inside door handle cable

I was taking off my Drivers door panel to find a rattle only to find that the green clip that retains the inside door handle was on the verge of breaking. Of course when I went to pop it out of position it broke completely. The dealer was the last one to have the panel off, so I know it's there fault, but how do you prove it? That's not my question, the question is how do I remove the inside door handle cable to replace it. The part number for the cable is 72171-SEP-A01. A manual scan would be great if possible. Thanks for any help.

dude all i have to say is good f*ckin luck it took me an hour to get to it.... you have to take the panel off then take the window track out by the hinge lock mechanism on the inside of the door. unscrew the 3 screws holding it in disconnect all the lock hinges and mechanisms and then you can change the wire. BUUTTT you have to take apart the mechanism to get to it on the inside.....not an easy job very tedious in taking apart and putting back together. I have to go to acura and get the mechanism replaced because I broke it.....Im not messing with it again.

I found a DIY in the Garage for most of it. I will order the parts and tackle it next week. Hopefully I will be able to get in and out of my car until then. Thanks.

no prob. best thing to do is order the whole assembly it comes put together so all you have to do is slide it in screw it down and your done. Im going to do that too its cheaper n less time consuming.

Just a quick update, I ordered the parts and should have them early next week. After reading the DIY I had the assembly out and back in in about 20 minutes, add a few minutes to reinstall the door panel and it'll be done. This job isn't that hard once you have the proper information and know what to take out. I pretty much did a trial run to see how long it would take and how difficult it will be. No need to post anymore tips, I have it under control thanks to AZ and the garage.

Door panel liner foam adhesive??

Anybody remove the white plastic liner to gain access behind it? I took mine off to do a job and ordered a new one. I need to know what adhesive I should use to reinstall the plastic liner. Where did you get it? Thanks.

I know this thread is over 2 years old

But just to give some people input on this for who may need to change the inner door handle wire.

Follow the instructions for replacing the door lock
Pull the entire lock out of the door, then you want to remove the lock protector. There is one screw, one push tab on the top, a tab on the bottom. And in the middle towards the inner portion you will see a metal tab that has to be pushed through. Then and only then will the lock protector come off the lock.

DO NOT try to remove the lock protector while the lock is still attached to the door, not possible, I tried for an hour, no dice.

Then just removed the lock, and was done in 5 minutes.

I actually recently got the same problem, I tried fixing it tonight and now I'm having some problem with my door not being able to unlock! So tomorrow I'm gonna have a go at it again. I broke a few of the wire snaps that attach the release and lock cylinder rods from the outside door handle to that actuator itself so I had to order those parts from Delray Acura. I'll I'm gonna say is be really careful when you're detaching all those wires before pulling the actuator out. But it really isn't that hard to change the cable once you have the assembly in front of you, there is a single screw that holds all three parts of the casing together, once you get that off look for edges where the plastics clip into each other, undo those and you should be good if you understand how the whole wire/snaps system works.

Here's the DIY if you need more help:

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/front-rear-door-panel-handles-wstrip-glass-window-regulator-removal-3g-garage-f-016-a-603296/

Scroll down to "Front Door Latch Replacement"

If you're problem is with the passenger door then there is only ONE cylinder rod as shown in that diagram (the thing labeled E) because there is no keyhole to lock/unlock the door from the outside so you only have a rod for the handle to open the door.

If you're problem is with the driver side door, like in my case, there there are TWO cylinder rods that attach into the actuator assembly. One for the handle and one for the lock/unlock through the keyhole. I know I'm being repetitive but clarity is bliss here on the forum. Anyways with the scenario, the diagram only helps you half way, you'll really need to figure out how to unsnap the lock rod from the actuator. Take your time with it, I wish I did.

Here's a DIY with pictures:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...diy+door+cable

It's also of the passenger door and you'll notice how the OP only gives instructions how to remove ONE cylinder rod, but at least the pictures give you a better idea of what to expect.

Btw, how did your cable snap? You don't happen to live in the northern part of the country, do you?

EDIT to my previous post

The diagram for the first DIY link under "Front Door Latch Replacement" is actually of the driver side door but the lock cylinder rod isn't shown because that was disconnected in Step 3 which tells you to scroll up to the page titled "Front Door Outer Handle Replacement" where it gives you a detailed diagram and instructions of how to disconnect that rod. Hopefully that helps you a lot.

Blueracer brought up a good point about that plastic liner, although that was 3 years ago. Personally I'm not a big fan of that stuff and if I were taking it off I would either Dynamat the door or use carpet liner. I opted for the latter, yeah it looks ghetto but once you get the inner panel back on, no one will ever know plus it's a TON of a lot better at reducing the rattle from inside the door and not only that but it's probably a better insulator too. I'll never understand the whole idea with the plastic. My old Integra had the same crap.

Like the foam carpet liner stuff? If so thats a bad its thats open cell foam it will absorb and hold moisture probably worse then having nothing there.

Even better would replace it with a piece of MLV (Mass loaded vinyl) sound barrier. Here is one of my doors although I still use the white film.

I've had that stuff for a while now and looking into the door, there doesn't seem to be any sign of moisture or rust. I'll probably go back and Dynamat them in the future anyways.
