Be careful driving over metal grates :-(

This past weekend, my girlfriend was driving my TL (red flag right there) and had a bit of an accident.

She was pulling into a spot when she heard a loud noise and immediately stopped the car. She got out and found a metal grate lodged in the undercarriage of my car.

Appearantly what happened is the gas station grate was not properly secured and when she ran over it, it popped up with such force that it went right through the exhaust, cat converter, floor board and finally through the side of my center console.

Obviously this is not her fault and the gas station is 110% at blame, but sucks that it had to be my car.

http://imgur.com/a/PpiQ2 (Notice how clean my car was, ya just got it washed...)

Wow, I thought that had happened on surface street. I wonder how the gas station will try to play this one off. Keep us update, dude!

Thats immensely unlucky man. I hope you get it fixed quick. Safe to assume that the station is covering the cost of this one?

On a side note, it's a fucking impressive display of exactly how much force is required to stop a car. Hard to believe that grate traveled all the way through the underside to the interior of the car.

OP, you're new here so I'll cut you some slack. Just so you know, in the future anytime you post a "My girlfriend was driving my TL" thread, pictures of the girlfriend are REQUIRED

Sorry about the car, hope the station's insurance ponies up. You should give your own insurance a heads up so they can help you out in dealing with the station. Good luck!

In the future, pictures of said girlfriends and sisters do generally help us ascertain damages more precisely.

That is crazy though. I'd assume your insurance will pay then go after the gas station's insurance company.

Well since the body shop I went to is a friend of mine, he wanted to go through 3rd party insurance to handle everything, so I did not alert my insurance. If the gas station does not want to play ball, then I will go through my insurance and just so I can have my car back and then leave the litigation to them.

On the bright side, I do not need my car for work. I just cant stand to drive my GF's car since its a POS. Hopefully, I will get my baby back in a week or two.

Got a police report, but the officer who wrote it is an idiot. He did not include the name of the gas station, a phone number, the insurance they have, or anything. So basically, I called up the owner of the gas station and he is sending me a copy of his policy.

Since the body shop does not want to start on the car until a claim is submitted, I am just waiting. If nothing happens by Friday, I am going to submit the claim through my insurance just so the body shop can begin working. Since there is no body damage (from what I know), I do not think it would take that long.

Well first the mechanic had to jack the car up, and he went under and tried to just pull it out. That did not work.

Then got a tow truck to pick the car up and finally was able to remove it. Hopefully, the Gas Station's insurance company will be calling me today to open a claim so I can get a rental car at the minimum. I am thinking about renting something like this, but not sure if they would cover it http://www.gothamdreamcars.com/new-york-city/lamborghini-lp560-rental.htm#

WOW! Take pictures of everything. Get written repair estimates. You never know what can go wrong. Get ready like you're going to have to go to court.

WOW that's fucking crazy bad luck. I would be going after the business insurance and you better get this fixed right. Water damage could slowly damage your car. Good luck with everything.

they should let you rent something equivalent of a TL....so basically any ferraris or lambos should be fine.

Seriously though, AllState is allowing me to get a "Premium Sedan" through Enterprise based on the 3G TL going in for repairs. Enterprise website says "Buick Regal or similar". WTF! Hopefully I can get a Maxima or something decent.

Definitely one of the craziest "accidents" I've ever seen. I would never have thought that this was even possible. Definitely negligence on the part of the gas station though...
