It almost makes me want to get a CF hood to go with it. Black with CF would look good.

I think the CF hood would look good on the black cars. I had one on my Prelude, it was San Marino Red, It look good. I would also like a small CF spoiler. Just enough to make it different. Not trying to make it ricey but still like the racing look of CF. What else would be phat, would be to do a Silver CF hood on the silver and white TL's. It would blend in enough, but still stand out up close. Clean and not ricey!! I love CF and carbon kevlars, they are so much fun to work with.

Thats kind of why I dont have one now....the ricey look of the black hood and white car would be very hard to get used to imo. But they are so much lighter....

The one I had was half the weight of the factory. The factory one weighed in at 44-45Lbs, and the Cf one was 22. That frees up 2 extra HP in the power to weight ratio!! I like the CF on a white car, but there really needs to be more then just a hood. If there was a trunk to match, then it would be hot. And if the roof was painted black to match, that is insane looking. But I know most people dont want to do that on a TL. I working on getting mine ready to start showing next year, working on some sponsorships and things like that. I spent alot of time over a three year span going to car shows. Mainly the big ones from Nopi. Its a blast. I also want to run it at the tracks and see what kind of looks I would get.

Man, I would love a cf hood! With my black car! With the hood scoop like the one pic. for the Ron JonWheels.... Above^

Question. Did you consider venting heat threw the cf shroud? Looking at the pic. It looks like you could! Now that would not only look GREAT but be a performance mod also!!!!!

Your right too!! That would chap em wouldnt it!

I could attempt to dremmel out a few of those slots....but then you would lose some strenth. I have thought of this also....may try it here eventually. But the mold has already been produced on the part to replicate the OEM part...so this would have to be an after/mod mod.

I thought it was est. between 250 and 300 but I guess at that time it depends on how many orders. Also I think this started out at a "feeler thread" to see if anyone was interested. Even with 37 on the list, as a manufactuer you have to kinda be a little pessimistic and probably think that only half of them are going to actually come though and purchase them when produced.

I agree... look what happened with the group buy with Tim when we were trying to do split A-Spec rims/suspensions.... I must have just simply missed the price estimate because I never saw that and I went through it twice... old eyes.. anyway, thanks for the heads up... I'm still in...

Update on Engine Cover

Here are some additional pics of the engine cover that I have been running the test on and can be seen here installed on my car....figured I had better get these babies posted so you can check it out in action. So far.....so good! Fit has been checked (obviously) and fits good....no rattles (I actually took the soft rubber peices from the OEM cover and transferred them to the back of this one to make sure - they peel off pretty easily) ....again...so far so good!! No unforseen issues yet!

And here is my new dobies thinking the whole project over and deciding who is going to get to drive first....Phoebe and Apollo...(ok...a shameless attempt to share my new buddies with ya!)

That looks great!!!

I saw in one picture (5th) that the edges underneath seemed a bit rough... is this just on the design template? Will the edges be smoothed out on the production model??

Love the pups man!!!

Thats the first off the rack...so there will be some stuff that will be refined as the process goes.....will it be as smooth as the plastic one on the edge....no....CF material is not injection molded like PE material...so it has an edge that is worked after it comes out of the mold generally. As I said though...this is the first....there will be some stuff like that. You cannot really router the edges of CF without messing it up....and this cover is not as thick as the OEM (not needed when using CF)

Wow, that looks really good...I'm imagining how the engine bay would look with carbon fiber replacements for the other plastic trim pieces as well

How long do you think it will be before these pieces are available for retail?

I know you mentioned that you'd like to test the red CF to make sure there was no fading and such...do you have any prototypes of red CF that are being tested at the moment?

I know...I was thinking the same thing and figured I could do the others next after the engine covers. They are flat for the most part...so should be really easy to make technique-wise.

No...I havent made any of the covers in red yet. Wanted to get the basic black done first before I messed with red as there are seperate issues that can come into play there. Gotta make sure what issues would have to be dealt with...and the only way to really accurately do this is to be able to compare to what we did before successfully....and black is the most popular color too.

These should be ready to ship soon as testing is all but complete for the most part. I have been running this one for a while and NO problems at all. Therefore more are in the works!

Thanks for your interest...and I will continue to keep you abreast of the process as we move through.

43. JS + TL

MichaelBenz - Any update on when the first few will be able to be shipped? Have you and the supplier talked any numbers about the price for these shrouds? And are you just going to post the product as a group buy and 1st come 1st serve will take affect as opposed to to going down the above list and selling to who chimed in on this thread first?

In other news (ha) ... I'm having that grey part on the back of the TL where the license plate is ... removed and replaced because one of the screws broke off inside of 1 of the holes for the plate. How much would it be for the same guy to make a carbon fiber mold for that and would anyone be interested in that? The dealer is writing it under my warranty (thank god!) and it'll cost Acura $700 parts and labor to do it. Just an idea I'm throwing out there since I'll have a spare one sitting around my house doing nothing but gathering dust incase he wanted to try and make a carbon mold of it!

2 or 3 one offs. Diff. people at diff times. I'd like to see this done as well as some smaller parts. What kind of production numbers does he ask so that it's worth it? I have some parts I'm REALLY interested in getting into production.

We can do just about anything....but production #'s and mold costs kind of depend on the part... Small parts are easier to make too!
