my 350z was wrecked by a buddy of mine, and when I went thru the insurance co I was also worried about the GAP... (didn't end up needing it because they valued the car for way more than I owed) but there was a nice paragraph about damage caused to the vehicle beyong your control when you were still paying it
x2, i still have the little yellow slip from Acura...I think its mandated by NY

No updates. No calls, however, I don't expect much on a Sunday. Most likely I will be getting a call from my insurance co. tomorrow while they conduct their investigation.

Also, I am financed through a credit union, not sure if it makes a diff.

Man, sorry to hear.

Grew up in Brooklyn myself so I make it a point to not have any sort of nice exterior mods on the car, including rims, wing, body kit, etc etc.

I've own my last car for 12 years (and counting) and as far back as I can remember, everytime she was washed/waxed, vandalism will surely follow soon after.

this is one of the ghetto neighborhoods in brooklyn...next to crown heights and East NY. GL finding your car man. They usually steal the cars around there for joyrides...

^^ Bed-Stuy really isn't bad anymore, but of course, it isn't exactly nice -- yet.

But I grew up between Sunset Park (early), then Sheepshead Bay (which is considered pretty nice). I guess it really doesn't really matter where you are, the fact remains - we can't have nice things.

Zigma have you found out anything? Look on the bright side..... You can get a BRAND NEW TL now!!!!! I'm not gonna lie, it sucks to get your car stolen, But damn it's bittersweet to roll off the lot in a brand new whatever you want.... I try not to keep too many personal items in my car due to the high crime areas where I work but damn.... thats what insurance is for..... I really hope it works out for you and take it from me, it can be replaced...good luck and keep us posted...

No news,

I double checked today to make sure the car was not towed by the city for some weird reasons but unfortunately no luck.

Proceeding with the insurance company now. It sucks... I hope my premium does not increase should I require a new car.

GAP insurance is handled at the financing table @ the dealership. Hope you get your car back with minimal damages, or a check so you can get a new one. Sorry Bro, this is a terrible situation. Low-jack the next one since you park it in less than fantastic areas.....

Check this out as well, it may help.... http://www.ins.state.ny.us/ogco2008/rg080320.htm

Call your credit union and ask them if you opted for GAP.

word i use to sell cars in greatneck, and if its a lease you should have gap on it. but if u purchase the vehicle then most likely, you would have had to request the gap insurance..i think.....

wow that sucks!!
My girl lives in Brooklyn and i wont park my car outside her apt at night OR for more than a few hours during the day. If it was stock I wouldnt worry too much but if you have mods your car is definitely the first one thieves will look at.

I would say i hope you find it but honestly i dont. You probably dont want the car back at this point. Collect the insurance $, and move on, lesson learned.
I do however hope the cops find out who stole your car, altho that is doubtful as well.

Sorry to hear about your car tho

Not necessarily. It is possible that GAP insurance was built into your loan payment. I'd check those papers as well. In any event, hope everything works out with best case senario getting an undamaged car back.

Wow, good luck with the situation. That has got to suck.

I'm seriously considering dropping the money on this since I have lots of electronics in the car. http://www.smokemachines.net/buy-car...y-system.shtml

In St. Louis we have more smash a grab thieves. They are too dumb to steal an Acura. It's so bad though the police are telling us to just leave our car doors unlocked.

Freakin awesome. My '99 Civic coupe was stolen two weeks after buying my TSX new, and since I didn't have theft I got screwed. I thought newer Acuras with immobilizers would deter most thieves, but I guess as our cars get older and people need replacement parts we're going to see more and more thefts..

If that happens to ME again, after 5 Hondas/Acuras I'm personally done. I'm a HUGE Honda fanboy but all this theft is pissing me off. Sorry to hear about your loss, I've been there before and know how much it sucks..

I agree..

unfortunately, no news yet. Since the car was fairly modern, I was always under the impression it was good. The next car I get will have lowjack installed along with a viper car alarm system.

I'm thinking of a bmw 335xi for my next car. I am in a horrible rental (Jeep Compass or whatever) and might return tomorrow for something better as its all they had.

Right now, I have to fill out an affidavit for the insurance company, along with that, I need to fax them over my title and the bill of sale. I will check my credit union for gap.

First let me tell you a VIPIR car alarm is good only if its installed where it cant be cut. I know installers that do crappy work just to get the sale and it doesnt take but 12 wires or so to make it work. HOWEVER, there is a new feature that can not only monitor your car but can crank it, unlock, etc ALL THRU YOUR IPHONE!! it's bad ass... If you are going to "cheat" on us here and get a beemer (lol) then look at the M series....

well, sorry to hear about your tl. I'm guessing the guy who robbed you planed this probably, you might not be able to find your car parked out on the street (not worth stealing a car and have it found), so it could be in a garage. Smart thieves steal the car and have it taken a couple states away, where they have already found a vin number taken from a totaled car matching the stolen vehicle, and slap the vin on the car. Next they sell the car to a dealer, most car thieves have ties to car dealers ( small used car dealers ). I don't really know how they obtain the paper work for the car, but I know some of the process.

But the odds of this happening is low, probably some a$$hole kid have a joy ride with your car.

True, but 99.99% of car thefts are casual thieves who are too stupid to get past the TL's immobilizer. The fact is that the TL is harder to steal than most other cars.

Pictures as promised

http://yfrog.com/2tphotosmjx

I took a video as well, will upload it soon.

It seems our cars are now quite common, it was only a matter of time as it's an acura after all. Am I the first to have his 3G TL taken and stripped for parts?
