Car missing :(

04 TL, went downstairs today to drive my wife to work... car is missing. Checked online and called 311 to see if it was towed, no record. Called local precint and they told me to call back in 5min... Going to check downstairs again but...

I don't owe any tickets and everything is up to date.. What could it be? Stolen?

No broken glass, I called 311 (NYC Help line), The local precinct and the brooklyn navy yard, thats where the cars get towed to and they have no record.

I just finished calling 911 and a police officer is coming to file a report. When do I call my insurance company?

I really hate having that sinking feeling. Sorry to hear if your car was stolen. And even if there was broken glass, it wouldn't have gone off either since we don't have shock sensor on it. Our factory alarm isn't that great.

cal your insurance agent NOW and tell them Police report is being filed- they will need that report number to get a claim going for you
Make a list/pics of any upgrades to the car and recent maitenance like the 105 that cost big dollars- those go into the cars value

Our alarm is a joke- ..and you can buy technology to defeat electronic signal systems, and if you tow it- raising the nose above a certain point trips the alarm release so it goes off...in case the car is being legally towed~

but good news is it may have gone for a joyride and found in good condition a few miles away--happened to a ziner in vegas!
You have your keys in hand and all sets accounted for?

OP that sucks. I think a call to the insurance company would have been on order after they said it wasn't towed

When my dad was going to college, he had an old Ford Galaxy (only 80 bucks!). Anyways, someone stole it from his neighborhood, and he was leaving and he ended up finding it in front of another house. Search your hood...

I have my key. I looked all over and nadda. I called my insuranane company and filed a report... I thought that we had a good alarm system. I was never worried the car would get stolen. The car is clean with an ASPEC Body kit, 2004, 65000 miles. If it is indeed stolen, I hope I get enough money to pay off the remaining loan.

Oh god. I remember back in the day Brooklyn was the city of stolen property. I know people their that steal stuff and deal "stuff" for a living there. Yes they know what they're doing, they use a scrambler to block the electronic car alarm system. I'll get a couple of phone calls to see if they know anything, hopefully their not the ones that stole anything.

Nonetheless, call the insurance company ASAP. Also, no matter how good a factory security system is, their is always a way around it just like anything in life.

read ur paperwork when you first bought the car, "gap insurance" is usually under the damage due to etc.. disclosure

sometimes the value of the car is worth more than you owe... in that case you get a check

in instances where your insurance co values the car for less, you can actually contest the amount to a certain extent, they look at the area you live in and what cars with the same year make model and mileage sell for and come up with a number that way

Below is my insurance premium

I think I'm screwed on gap. I am still speechless as how this could happen but if somebody wants something, they will take it. I always thought this car was a bit harder to steal than say, a civic or even an integra.

Just about any car can be stolen with tow truck.
Hope you find your car soon

I am truly sorry that happened to you. About the only place I ever worry about having my car stolen is when I take vacation. In the area where I live, I virtually never worry about this because when it's home, it's parked in our garage (both of my TL's are parked in the garage - single family home. As for when I am out and about, I never take it to places where there are known problems (of course, those can and do happen anywhere).

You are right when you say,

"if somebody wants something, they will take it."

The only way you can be positive they won't get it is to be there armed when they try.

Real sorry to hear about that man. NYC is crazy like that sometimes. My father had his maxima stolen back in 2000 after running into his friend's restaurant around 1am to talk shop. He was in there for no more than 15 minutes. Car was parked on a busy upper east side street (2nd ave and mid 80s) and the car dissapeared without a sound. As much as I want to give you hope I also think its better for you to be realistic and work towards getting your insurance paperwork rolling.

All the best man. I hope that if they do recover your car it was only taken on a local joyride and dumped and not stripped or beat on/damaged badly.

the GAP disclosure is in the back of the contract... THE INSURANCE CO DOES NOT COVER GAP... this is BIG in NY...

I am 100000% sure you have GAP... it's damn near mandatory because banks DO NOT want to be cut short

my 350z was wrecked by a buddy of mine, and when I went thru the insurance co I was also worried about the GAP... (didn't end up needing it because they valued the car for way more than I owed) but there was a nice paragraph about damage caused to the vehicle beyong your control when you were still paying it

The amount of stealing tends to rise during the holidays for some reason.
Im opposed to grand theft auto.
