Car Farts

Anyone experience excessive catalytic converter smell? I can't tell if it's coming from my TL or from the guy in front of me, but I smell "car farts" more than in any other car I've owned. Maybe the air intakes are in a funny spot or the airflow to them is more direct.

My car was stinky for a couple hundred miles. It just goes away. Give it a couple of long hard drives and that's it.

The wife and I noticed this the first evening out in the new TL.. I blamed it on her, never the car....

Seriously - I believe its a byproduct of the ultra low emission "system" as I call it. Definitely had a strong sulfur smell. We had the heater on and pulling from outside air. I believe it was just a case of the wind blowing the right way to the cars position, allowing the cowling vents to suck it in. I haven't noticed it again. If you get the odor again quickly go to recirculate and see if the odor subsides.

I have noticed this as well. I reported it to my service department. He said it might be the brand of gas I'm using. I switched to Chevron and haven't had the problem since.

I noticed this smell the time the service guy mistakenly put an 89 octane gas in my tank. 93 octane before and after and no sulfur stench.

if you do any type of hard acceleration for about 30 seconds, then pull into a driveway and get out... you should smell it.

I think ti is just the cats burning off the excess fuel from heavy acceleration. My car did it for the first 1000 or so miles. You can also tell when the guy in front of you floors it by that smell!!
