Angry Car was broken into

I parked my car in a garage at my girlfriend's place in gainesville around 2:30 PM and heard an alarm around 4 which is common so i didnt think much of it. Well around 7 my friend came up and asked why my lights were on and at that point I knew my car had been hit. I ran down to find some jackass had used a crowbar or something to pry my door open leaving a huge dent and prying part of the handle off. I called the police and they came out 1.5 freakin hours later only to ask how my car was still wet in the garage (it was raining) since it had been in the garage's cover for a few hours. The car was almost completely dry (few drops on the trunk) but he put his search light on it and said he thought it should be dry since it had been under cover for a few hours. It was freaking pouring out all day and cold, not the best conditions for a car to dry even if it is under cover. Why the hell would he ask me that?

Anyway judging from hand marks on the door the cop as well as I think they got into the car and got scared when the alarm went off. There was nothing in the car minus a horse bridle in the backseat and the corner of a portable navi was kinda peaking thru the partially closed cup holder but nothing was missing, F-ing people. If you want to break into my car steal the damn thing.

Anyway when does the alarm go off? When you open the door? It doesn't seem to have a shock sensor does it?

I guess it could have been worse but I am still mad of course not to mention it wouldn't start because the alarm had killed the battery

That's messed up. How does prying that part get the door open? I'm not 100% sure how exactly that works... sorry it happened, hopes it never happens again.

Ouch! I don't agree either that it had to be dry. Insurance FTW...or loss...

well the alarm goes off when the lock is lifter without use of a key or the FOB so they definitely unlocked the door and the alarm went off, this wasnt done by a pro, definitely a first timer or an idiot (both). Your battery died because he left the door partially open and the lights drained it. sorry to hear it. what color is your CL? its pretty nice. hope you get it all settled

Sorry to hear about your incident. I was in your shoes last year when some asshat busted out my window and our crappy, passive alarm doesn't go off unless it's something like your case. Hope you can repair that dent using something similar to Dent Wizard.

Thanks all but the dent is pretty bad and the paint is all screwed up so I'm thinking its going to need more then dent wizards. As for insurance, i dont think im going that route because I dont want to deal with the higher rates but figured I would get the police report just in case.

your rates will not go up, this is definitely a COMP claim. go the insurance route, that is definitely more damage than you want to pay for

No I went to the office this morning to ask that question and they just kinda laughed. Not much I can do except fix it and move on but it is annoying and Im kinda worried they will come back even tho im sure this was a one time thing.

Sorry for what happened. It's amazing that there are always deadenders in this world who would rather rob or steal than earn their own living. Me personally, anytime I hear an alarm in the same vicinity as my car, I go out and investigate, regardless of the time.

I would go with insurance, that door is gonna cost you more than your deductible, and it will be comprehensive.

I had my door checked, it has a minor scratch, but it is also dented. $800 quoted, but mines a WDP (3 stage paint).

Allon, I used to have a Viper 791xv I think...alarms are good, but pointless in this thread. They didn't steal anything. All alarms do is tell you that you are about to get robbed. But none of the blaring would have prevented his door from getting crowbarred! Alarms are after the fact, so a waste of money in my book.

If they want to steal it, they will find a way. If they want something inside, all they have to do is get in, take it, and be ghost! You come running up LATER! No more alarms for me. I just take my valuables out of my car when I park it.

I have a lojack with early warning. No, that doesn't stop them from taking my car, but it does give me a headstart on getting it back, and maybe before a lot of damage and wild driving might take place.

Ha ha yea i saw the car and was like damn why didnt they just take the damn thing instead of bashing it up so i could get it fixed. I keep finding things that are wrong due to this incident too, the drivers door is screwed up which i noticed but didnt realize how bad it was seeing how the passenger side was so dented. The headlights flashed for hours and I swear they look yellow now and the freaking horn is all messed up sounding and doesnt work half the time

Well it wasnt as bad as i thought. They need to replace the caps on both the passenger and drivers door handles, replace the passenger side door handle, replace the horn, replace the black shiney stuff between the two windows, fix the dent, paint the passengers door and blend the passenger back door. Total cost for this is $736 of which i will pay since my deductible is $500 and i filed a claim last october when some lady hit me in a parking lot ($1500 or so in damage). Insurance company said despite my clean driving record that those two comp claims may push them to drop me so it is not worth it to file. Oh well, why do i need insurance again, I am afraid to use it haha

I really hate how the insurance industry has us by the twig and berries just because of incidents that's beyond our control. Why do they feel the need to drop us because of us trying to get our money's worth from them? I feel like we have to take matters into our own hands solely because of fear of being dropped and most states will not let you have a driver's license without proof of a valid insurance.

/rant

On the other hand, I'm glad to hear that the damage wasn't as high as your last incident, but I don't see how your insurance company can't cough up the extra $236 to cover your damage since you'll be paying $500 outright already.

yea insurance is an interesting thing but what can you do, atleast it will only cost me 200 bucks more then going thru insurance and it wont be held against me in the future. It almost makes you hope your car is really screwed up so state farm can really pay out and get you a whole new paint job ha ha
