Canada TLer: New Wiper blade from Candian Tire
I have seen the ad on TV. Since my 18" winter wiper blade will not work on the passenger very well. Got myself one of those Reflex wiper blades for the passenger side (19").
Just tried it in -50 °C weather and travelling in 110 km/hr. The Reflex blade (19") was working pretty good. After the Reflex blade made a pass, the windshield did initally "fog" up for 5 second but it cleared up with a clear windshield.
Now I am just waiting for the 24" blade to come in. The longer blade may have lower performance.
Just thought I will share this info.
Here is the link to the blade.

Are you sure it was -50 C? This converts to -58F, which seems pretty cold to me.
I just checked the weather for Saskatoon and it is currently +5 C, and will go down to +2 C tomorrow, but -50 C seems a tad low.

(Actually looks like it works out... Depending on how fast he was going!)

Good on ya...
SO.... The aforementioned -50C guy... He's in a world of hurt! The first TL at the north pole IS a noted achivement though!

OK, here is the exact specification during the test. On Jan 15 at 0500 hrs (MT), I left Prince Albert, SK to Saskatoon, SK. The outside ambient temperature was -38 °C plus windchill (confirmed by the airport temperature reading). At that time, the wind was blowing at 22 km/hr. That is about -45 °C with the windchill.
Since I was travelling in 110 km/hr with an ambient temperature of -38 °C. I estimated (conservatively) the wind effect will create a temperature sensation of about -50 °C.
Even though the TL will not be affected by the windchill but the windshield wiper fluid will experience the similar heat loss sensation as a human. Therefore, I think this was an valid experiment, though not exactly scientific since there was no control being done at the same time.
I think I live in a pretty good test location for any winter testing on the TL. BTW, left the car outside for 10 hr without plugging in the block heater. The battery has enough CCA to turn the engine without any problem.
FYI, I think the coldest spot in Canada that day was in Yukon somewhere, and it was -60 °C plus windchill.

This site explains wind chill factor, today the wind chill is -40, skin if exposed will freeze in 10 minutes.

I bought Reflex for my car as well. The passenger side works great, but the driver side "groans" on its way up. The downward pass is perfect. Also, when groaning, it does that skipping thing on the top 5" of the blade so it hits and misses for about 12" of windshield. All in all, not too impressed with that part. Since it does a clean wipe on the downward pass, it's not so bad, but the groaning is annoying. Not sure if I should go back and get it changed...

The blade sizes are 650MM (25.6") DRIVER SIDE and 475MM (18.7") PASSENGER SIDE

While the WIND-CHILL EFFECT is related to humans and bare skin (this eliminates most other mammals animals since they have fur), the wind does have a significant effect on heat-transfer on machines. Most engineers have to deal with that god-awful Thermodynamics course in their studies to get the gory details.

Plus it is a dry cold. After one winter, it is no different than other winters. You get used to it.

Sask can refer to the entire province of saskatchewan. I'm not sure what the temperature is way up north but I'm pretty sure it wasn't -50.

Aaaarrrggghhhh!
Rather than all trying to be Junior Meteorologists, can we just all agree that it was probably really f-ing cold wherever he was on that day and get back to the discussion of the wipers?

No kidding!! Enough hijacking! I wanna know if I should bring my wipers back to Canadian Tire for a refund and get PIAAs... I think it's PIAAs that makes an equivalent wiper right?
