can someone explain the fog lights...

i have an 04 tl and i guess my fogs are in the light housing next to the hids.
so what are the extra fogs i see on newer tls with the fogs on the bottom in the bumper?
do they have two sets of fogs?

also can i buy my own bumper fogs? where?

thanks for any help!!

In the 07/08 TLs, the fogs have been moved to the lower bumper. The housing next to the headlights are now strictly reserved for DRLs.

For the 04-06 TL's you have to do quite a bit of modding to get the newer oem fogs in the bumper. Most 04-06 guys took an easier route and mounted 05-06 Accord fogs from ebay. It takes some modification, but it works like a charm. Looks like they were meant for the 04-06 TL bumpers.

The newer TLs have DRLs in place of the fogs.

Daytime Running Lights. It's a safety feature for when the car is shifted out of park. It supposedly makes it easier for other drivers to see you.

Here are your options for an 04-06TL:

1) Run everything stock: HID headlights, OEM fogs in headlights only come on with headlights & are controlled by stalk switch.

2) Adding 07-08 OEM fogs to your lower grille: expensive and requires replacement of the grilles and some cutting. See this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=grate+grin

3) DRL Module from autobarn.com: This turns your OEM fogs in the headlights into Daytime Running Lights. Your fogs turn on when you start the car and shine at 75% intensity. They remain this way when you turn on your parking lights and turn off when you turn on the headlights. The stock functionality of the fogs is not affected--i.e.: They shine 100% when activated by the stalk switch. Very easy mod with some electrical wiring needed. See here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=DRL+module

4) eBay Honda Accord (4 Door) Fogs 03-05 in lower grille: I got mine from www.k2motor.com. They come with the fogs, bulbs, brackets, hardware, relay, harnesses and switch. Inexpensive, but the install can be complicated requiring cutting of your bumper, grilles and the foglight housings. You may also have fitment issues if you have a CAI. There are numerous threads on this option. I recommend you search and read as many as you can, as they all have useful info. See here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=DRL+module

5) HIDs: Way too many threads on this, but it boils down to replacing any or all of the following:
bulbs in OEM fogs
bulbs in Accord fogs
bulbs in OEM HID headlights
bulbs in reverse backup lights (believe it or not!)
with aftermarket High Intensity Discharge bulbs (like your stock headlights). Getting much more affordable than they used to be---check the Black Market for sponsored sale from HIDxtra. These things emit crazy amounts of light, but you also have to worry about color matching, as they come in different "temperatures" which affects the shade of color emitted. Note that your stock headlights are 4300K temperature---slightly yellower than pure white. I have ordered DDMTuning's 5000K 35W kit for my Accord fogs---expecting them tomorrow!
Also note that putting HIDs into housings designed for halogen bulbs will cause glare, as there are no projectors to focus the light and it winds up spraying all over the place.

I am currently in the process of switching my whole lighting situation and I found out last night that my POS point & shoot camera doesn't take night pics very well or I would have added those. Sorry!

BTW---the 03-05 Accord fogs should be from the 4 door version of the Accord.

Mods, would you be so kind as to edit my original post with this rather important detail?

I dont like the 04-06 TL's because of this reason. Fog lights in the headlight housing? blah. The lower valance also looks so plain compared to the 07+ TL's. I also think the 07/08 headlamps looks much improved as well. I say get yourself some sort of OEM fog for the lower part really improves the front of the car.

So are the newer Type S 06/07 lights interchangable with the 04/05 ?

Yes, replacing your headlights with 07-08 units is another option, albeit the most costly.

Manual looks like you gotta pull the entire light unit out after removing the bumper. The bulb is held in by a #20 Torx. Make sure you disconnect both the negative and positive battery cables. The electrical charge is in the ballasts, not the bulbs. So once you pull the connectors you should be safe. Don't touch the bulb.
Looks like it may be more involved than you initially suspected. I have not changed out my headlight bulbs, so I dont have much more than what "the book" says.

dwb933, will those accord foglights from that website that you linked be able to handle HID bulbs? I was thinking of going with the OEM ones because they have a glass and metal housing? Not too sure which ones to go with but for that price on the website, that's a good deal.

I believe the fogs will handle the 35W HIDs with no problem. The UPS site says they are "Out for Delivery" today, so I should be able to give you more info after I install them this weekend. I would not go with anything higher than 35W on those, though. Hell, even the halogen bulbs get hot!

I should also mention one other option for your headlights--clearing them. This involves heating up the headlights in an oven to get them apart. JnC is the man on AZ who you need to talk to about this. Search for his thread and review closely. There are a lot of things you can do by going this route, both functional and cosmetic.

Keep my updated with some pictures of how they look after you get them HID's in the foglight. I've been thinking of doing this accord foglight mod, but probably during the winter months while the car is sitting in the garage. I was gonna go with the OEM accord foglights but the price is so $$$. I've seen a couple people on the black market trying to get rid of theirs also.

I'm guessing that the foglights you are getting from the website includes all the wiring relay's and switch also? Post some pictures of what the kit came with if you can.

OK, this thread has been through a few twists and turns. Time to get it back on track.
I got my HIDs on Friday and snapped a few comparison pics:
First up is a shot of the OEM lights:

Not bad. You can see the yellow of the OEM fogs.

Next, we have a shot of the OEM fogs with Sylvania Silverstar Ultra halogens. Headlight guru JnC says these bulbs are the closest you will get to the stock HID headlights as you will get with halogen:

The Silverstars are a bit whiter in hue than OEM, but I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed in that I don't think they are a good match. Halogens cannot compete with HID, I guess.

Next up are the Silverstars and OEM HIDs plus the eBay Accord fogs with the standard halogen bulbs:

Not bad but nowhere near the color of the stock HIDs.

Finally, the HID eBay Accord fogs. I went with DDMTuning 5000K units:

These things throw out crazy amounts of light, as you can see by the glare in the pic. I used the 35W units to try to keep temperatures reasonable--although even the halogens got pretty hot. The 5000K are a bit bluer than the stock headlights, but I want to run them for a bit longer before I make a final decision. DDM will swap out the bulbs for a different temp bulb if I pay shipping. They also have a lifetime warranty.

Of course I was kidding in a sense, the idea being to suggest that a true TL doesn't have something called "Park" because a true TL has a 6MT.

(I've never owned an automatic-shift car and references to "Park" and such always strike me as unnatural.)

LOL
I wish I had a 6mt, but I had to settle for the auto, due to the wifey.
I'll return to stick one day.
