Caliper Paint Coming Off

Not sure where to put this, since it's not a part, suspension or a photograph or anything... but yeah.

I painted my calipers white some time ago using a high heat engine enamel spray... 3 coats. Unforutnately, my paint is coming off in spots, not sure why... what's the best thing to do? I was htinking of washing the calipers really well with dish soap or something to get them completely degreased and then spray on 3 more coats of white. Is that okay or should I remove old paint first?

My paint is starting to come up also. I attribute this to poor prep work. When I get my car on a lift and rotate the tires, I'm going to clean the calipers off and see if I can get the paint off. I then might buy some slightly used calipers and completely prep them, and prime and paint them, with a couple of possible clearcoats.

i was thining about painting mine, but when you do it is almost inevitable that the finish begins to fade and/or look like crap or start to peel. if i was going to do it, i would go with powder coating.....

Guys...
Spray paint will never hold, You'll be luck to keep it clean looking for a year. Brake dust is terrible stuff, and that's a very harsh environment there.

Even the G2 caliper paint chips away after a year or so.

If your crazy about getting this done, get a set of used calipers from a junkyard, and have them powder coated porperly.

What's the best way to get the paint off safely without messing your brakes or rotors up?

I painted mine with gold WalMart spray paint (Krylon 18K Gold) and the paint is the same as when I put it on over 2 years ago. I keep them clean.

But I'm in Florida where we don't have winter/salt and my mileage is rather low.

its all about the prep work... and also if you put some sort of clear over the paint, it helps alot... but yeah i would suggest the powder coating route since it is much more durable and permanent...

I used aluminum foil to mask the rotor and suspension parts, and masking tape for the stainless steel and rubber parts

The foil is easy to shape and put where you want it.

There is more expensive paint -some made especially for brake calipers - but, as I say, mine is two years old and still good. I wash them whenever I wash the car.

I think JC Whitney sells a kit.

if your going to so far as to remove them, might as well get them powder coated! then it will never change

Xpidotor, whats the best way to clean your brake calipers? I have been trying to get em clean lately but its been pretty hard to get done. I have red calipers that I used duplicolor high resistent paint just for the calipers. It worked pretty good but i used newspaper to go around everything and i did a pretty decent job. once i get my new rims i mean WOW will it look good. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW 2 GET "ACURA" put on the front brake calipers if you have an automatic it doesnt come stock so I want to get that done. if anyone has any experience with this please get back to me. Thanks for everyones response and have a nice day.
