Caliper Covers?

I have a 06 TL, My caliper's are rusted and ugly, and I have my wheels coming soon. Yes I could paint them, but eventually they look like shit and the paint kinda wear's off.

I am wondering if anyone have put these ebay caliper cover's on that simply silicone on your calipers, and what the con's are to doing this?

Also they is a company at the link below, that doesnt use glue, screws etc to put them on...anyone got these done? let me know....

Absolutely no experience with them. How do they manage to reduce brake temperature?

If I saw your car in person, this would be the conversation...

Me: Oh nice brakes...is that Rotora or Brembo?
You: No, those are just caliper covers.
Me: Soo, you don't have a BBK?
You: No, I just want it to look like I do, but its just a piece of plastic to look cool, they serve no purpose.
Me: Ohhhh.....(Walking away slowly)

Don't do it. It's total rice.

A) Done right the paint doesn't wear off and look like shit ..

B) Doesn't look like they make them for Acura/Honda.

Take the time to prep the calipers and then paint them. It's worth it.

1st off I wouldn't be trying to make it look like I have a BBK,I would be trying to hide ugly rusted caliper without painting it, get your shit straight....

Dave, dont do it bro. just prep and paint the calipers with duplicolor caliper paint kit. super easy to use.
they look nice when painted. you could even spray a few coats of high temp clear coat on them. will give them that glossy look and trust me it will last. i did mine over a year ago and they still look new.

The G3 caliper painting kit is the only one I've ever used on other cars that really lasts. You mix the paint with a special bonding agent that makes it really hard after it dries so that you can bang it with a wrench and it wont chip.

First coat your calipers with Rust Bullet, 2 coats. Then you can paint over the Rust Bullet. You wont see rust again for a LOOOONNNGGGG time if ever.

interesting point- a primer coat of rustoleum type product--good idea!

I have 2 years on duplicolor kit on my 01, still look fine and draws eyes at ziner meets.
it takes 2-3 coats to do a really good job that last- kit has enough to do 5 cars so thats not really an issue
Buy pack of foam brushes for extra coats- the paint hardens fast in the brush so you toss them
clearcoat an option for the super AR

do the edge and center hat of the rotor too- and the caliper brackets, and the vertical arm behind the backing plate- all blacked out is slick

You can hide a problem or fix it~

take the opportunity with the wheels off to remove the brake pads, clean and lube the needed places so they are good (grease makers say 1 year life then replace again)

flush out the brake fluid
wash and wax the rims on both sides- then treat with 2-3 coats of SYNTHETIC car wax- 100 degree higher melt point than carnuba wax- and will prevent a lot of the drake dust adhesion and buildup,,a slippery slope gather no dust~
really works!!

ok did when you painted the calipers did you guys mask everything off of the car around the area?

the point of this thread was really to see if the ebay caliper covers would cause any problems by adhering them to the caliper with silicone?

If I was to get those I wouldnt get brembo on them, I would just get black blank ones....

I have the Ebay BBK Caliper Covers.
I took even more shit about them than you from these clowns.
Its your car do with it what you want, the covers are cheap, look good, easy to install, and completely reversible.

I used double sided tape and haven't had a problem at all:

You will need a clean surface for the silicone to bond to .. and I don't know how well the silicone will stand up to the brake heat. If your going to have to clean it anywat .. why not just paint .. A can of caliper paint is less than $10

If I was to get those I wouldnt get brembo on them, I would just get black blank ones... They don't even list the Aucra/Honda line so you might be out of luck there too .

duplicolor caliper paint kit has all you need - a spray cleaner for the parts, some masking tape, can of liquid paint and a foam brush

see the diy/garage section for full pictorial instructions
takes 5-10 minutes between coats to dry- do 3 coats, wait 20 minutes and replace wheel
I started at one corner and painted each set, by that time the first was dry and ready for next coat

Let me get this straight.. You put BBK covers over BBK brakes? The purpose of this was? Just wondering...

You are going to get 100% negative feedback regarding this mod if they haven't seen it in person. (Hell I would join in on the flaming had I not known what they really look like)

I haven't openly shown them off but I do have them. Had them probably before anyone else, for a year and a half now. I did them in simple black to not attract undue attention to them, they blend right in. Yes they are functionless but I don't need the function, OEM is fine for me. I am very light on my brakes and my car is a commuter, not a racer. It is reversible as said. Air can get to them, don't worry about overheating. They are thin but pretty well made and the paint on them stands up.

It looks great IMO and looks WAY better than they did before. I get compliments from everyone all the time and it looks like BBK to the untrained eye, nobody catches it. After I change the rotors it will look even better. (75k with original pads and plenty left.) The AZine guys have fun to poke me with it but most agree it looks decent. I don't need to spend $1k to impress. Aesthetically it gets the job done. Everybody has their opinions. I say do it.

I was wrong, it's called G2 not G3. This is the only one I've ever used that has lasted to serious abuse. I've tried the Duplicolor kits on other cars and while they've worked ok for some, some cleaning chemicals will cause the color to fade and eventually chip off....especially if you ever take your car through a pay and spray.

The only thing about that kit above is you may want to stop by Target and pick up some cheap paint brushes. The brush they supply with the kit sucks. You mix in a chemical that comes with the kit and it makes the paint bubble up while it's in the can. When it hardens, it hardens for good. It is a very strong application, that's why I'm recommending it.

The deal is that you keep getting an attitude when we are trying to help you out. We tell you exactly what to get and instead of offering a thank you, instead you come back with an attitude telling us to "get our shit straight".

You need to realize that there are things you can do to your car that not everybody will like. It comes down to you and what you want for the car, but you can't get pissed when people express their opinion. We are entitled to it. Starting a thread only invites people to tell it.

So now you've met a member with the caliper covers. Good luck with whatever you deicide to do.

I might look at the caliper cover option just because I like the reversability of the mod. I mean, when you really think about it, what's the difference between a vinyl black roof that simulates a panoramic roof, quad exhaust tips welded on to dual outlet mufflers, or caliper covers? They all serve only one purpose: improved aesthetics over stock. Not everyone is going to like it and would rather go with the real-deal Holyfield. That's fine. It's all the matter of taste.

OP: You seem to get butthurt real easily. Just take the opinions given to you that you are asking for and use them to help base your decision on what you want do. Don't bite the hand that feeds.

You .. in defence of the OP ... He didn't ask for opinions .. he asked if anyone has done it and what the cons were. To me a con is something detrimental to the operation or the performance of the vehicle not if it is ricey. If caliper covers are ricey .. then so are our painted calipers. Strictly esthetic.

I also agree with the ones that commented on his attitude ... future help will be hard to find when your biting the hand ....

Listen guy's, I just think alot of people on this site, talking alot of shit, and think they are better than other's. For instance the dude with the blue caliper's, good for him for doing something different, but then ppl talk shit to him.

I said, get your shit straight to the guy who wrote the following.

AS FOR YOU JESSTZN you seem to monitor and follow every post of mine, and when I say something, you jump on it, And yes I rep Canada, and im showing people we arent a bunch of pussy's who back down to people talking shit.

Well crap ... and here I even defended you a couple of posts up ... And if that type of attitude is representing Canada then I want no part of it. Canadians have never been pussys but in most cases we are know for our tact and maturity.

Nuff said ... good luck in your quest.

the point of painting the calipers, brackets and rotor center and edges is to prevent surface rusting of the metal- which is a major issue on our cars and looks realllly bad IMO

Whatever primer you like, or use duplicolor kit right out of its box, or use bbq paint or engine paint- its all 500+ degree rated and wont melt off the caliper in normal situation.
Track day racers may need the g3 epoxy paint for lasting results

I dont mind touching mine up from a rock scuff or a nick while installing the wheels-(most common problem) just reach thru wheel and paint!

Pulled the wheels and retouched all calipers and rotors for a ziner meet one year~
Neighbors wonder about my mental stabilty- work on the engine with a stethascope and paint the calipers

I will last on this site, because I stand up for what I beleive in. This site in intended for people to come on and ask question's, show pics, and share opinion's. It seems the same people on here put other's down, talk useless garbage, and think they're cars are better than others, which is fine. My problem is people who talk crap about people, and put them down. I mean, if it's not your thing, it's not your thing, just say that, dont put useless garbage saying, id walk up to your car and say this and this, give me a break. My intentions on this site are to get info meet new ppl, and ask questions, but if this site is full of internet thugs and bully's, I will have no part in it, and that will be my own choice. I dont want it to come to that, but it might.

Most people won't even stick up for themselves on here because the "moderators" might say something to them. Give me a break!

ppl need to grow up and stop taking this site, let alone they're on cars pathetically seriously.

There doesn't seem to be a big con with the caliper cover. If you like it you should get it.
That's the whole point to modding anyway, right? To add/do things the way you like it and want it to be.

If you can pick these up locally and don't have time to paint the calipers than it would be a good 'quick alternative' to cover up the rust. Then when you have time, you could remove them... take care of the rust issue and then paint the covers. Then... save the covers for a 'just in casies'.
