Cabin Filter Replacement
Cabin Filter Replacement
Later today I am going into my shop to get my tires balanced, rotated, and aligned. I do this every 5,000 miles when I get my oil changed sense I have lifetime on all of it. Soooooo, to get to the point my TL is at 80,000. I bought it at 57,000 2 years ago. I don't think the cabin filter has ever been changed before I bought it and I keep reading here on AZine that should change it every 30k. Is this really worth my time and money?
Not trying to sound dumb here but I just want to know the benefits of doing this.

honestly i would go ahead and change it.
I changed mine not to long ago and was quite surprised by the junk in the filters.
The removal process is beyond easy. I had no idea how to remove it and just went ahead and did it anyway.
Next thing you know, i found the DIY and based on the steps , it was exactly as I did. So no Ph.D is required.

It's probably worth your time and money, but may not be worth what a dealer or shop will charge. I've read of dealer service charging $130+. WAY too much.
DIY is like $20 for the filter and 15 - 30 minutes of your time. Only tool you need is a screwdriver and maybe a utility knife (dont' remember if there are plastic tabs to cut the first time or not).

Nope, nothing to cut in my TL, I have put in a filter without an active element, tomorrow I am installing a baking soda filter. In my experience, the panel part that you pull out may crack or the plastic tabs may fall off if it is cold (it is possible the previous owner did it). PS Cold is ND, MN, MI, Canada, NE cold not Florida 55F cold.

I did mine at 40k and it was disgusting. The part was ~17 dollars and about 20 minutes of my time. It is recommended every 15k miles / 1 year. What's 15 dollars a year for breathing fresh air?
