Buying used 06 - feedback please

I'm ready go make a move on a white/ebony w/nav 2006 TL, ~14k miles for $28,975.

Any thoughts real quick? I think that's a pretty great price compared to others I've seen around here. Most 06/w out nav seem to have a sticker of 31k.

Anything I should look out for? Any feedback appreciated.

go here:

www.kbb.com

www.edmunds.com

they are good sites that will give you an estimate as to how much the used car will be worth based on a variety of options.

It'll help your bargaining power with the sales people.

That's what they're asking so doesn't include tax (6%) or tag (what's that about $30 or so?)

Oh and I didn't mention this is at a dealer, but it's not certified, they said would do that for probably $750-850 but I'm not seeing the need to pay for that unless others think it's a must.

I have an 06, and it's been a great car. The price you're to pay isn't bad according to KBB.com, as they have it listed as $32K+ used (although I bought mine new for $32,800 with NAVI, and some people got their cars for in the $29-30K range after the 07's were released. In the used market, you don't have as much leeway in the price as you do when buying what is essentially a leftover. I think $28K is fair. Keep up on the seat care with leather cleaners/ conditioners, though. A lot of people complained about their seats prematurely cracking, but mine are fine with proper care.
Good luck.

Otherwise, I have no issues with my car.

As long as it comes with the balance of the factory warranty (4yr/50K miles on the car and I believe it's 6yrs/ 70K miles on the drivetrain), I don't think the Certified status matters.

One last thing...if $28K is the asking price for the car, you can always offer a lower price- the worst they can say is no.

Well I bought a new 06 non-navi for 29.5k in september. I heard of people getting new navi models for about 30500 when they were closing them out. Tl's can often be had for invoice or a couple hundred over. What is it worth to you?

Personally I leary of buying a used car that's less than 2 years old. My question is always why did they get rid of it? Lemon or what? Its probably fine, but you never know.

Well I bought mine for 32,8k when I got it. WDP/Ebony with Navi. It now has 7700 miles and I was interested in a Type-S and only got offered 26,5k for it.

I've heard those stories on this board too but unless you're in CA or have some incredible luck, my experience with local dealers (throwing the stories on this board at them) was $33k for the last new 06 with nav on their lot, and a new one is gonna set me back 34k. Just seems for $4k less (33k - 29k) it's totally worth it, my monthly payment will be about $100 difference or so. Plus, I put about 20k miles on a car a year so to me this car isn't really even a year old.

Car Fax comes back fine on this one but it looks like the original owner had some financial problems, talks about a lien...

I would rather have a 2007 but for the $ difference seems too good to pass up, assuming it looks good when I get there (2 hour drive ugh)

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I wish! Tag in arizona on a car that expensive would come out to about $600. In AZ, the registration costs are based on the price of the vehicle.

$28975 shows a little room to make an offer. The below price is the wholesale price you can expect a dealer to pay for the car. I think I would make an offer at $27,000 and then see what my gut feeling is about the car and if I feel it is worth more. I tried to purchase a used service loaner a couple of months ago from a dealer that had 6 of them in stock and they wouldn't come down past $29125 no matter what and told me they would just sit on them before they took any less. The still have the same one I looked at on the lot. So if you really like the car make the offer and if they don't call you back, call them and make another offer. You can always go up!!

Quick reference point - I just bought a certified '05 with Nav for $27.5k in Houston, 36k miles. I think certification is more relevent if you know you will sell the car past original warranty mileage.

i'd say check around for a "new" leftover with Zero Miles. i got my '06 with navigation (30 miles on speedo) in december for $30K "even... including everything." they would not go one penny lower at the dealership that had the car i wanted (and i did beat on them for several days). i was able to get other dealerships to go to $29,600 (however, ultimatley i didn't want the car they had). The dealership i bought from would not match the $29,600... they said that they were not that desperate to sell a TL

seems like you should not have to pay $28,975 for a car with 14K miles when you could get one with 0 miles for less than $1,000 more.

i'd say look around at a few dealers first... and definitely bid low as suggested by the previous posters if you do go for that car

Thanks guys, actually I've been trying to get a deal locally since last fall but the best I could do was 32k for a left over 06 and 34,500 for a base 07.

I bought the used 06 yesterday, I only got about 250 less than I wanted on my trade after a stupid low offer they started with.

They didn't move off of their price but frankly I'm okay with that, I just couldn't do any better (I tried like I said above).

So, now I'm a happy first time TL owner. Looking at the RonJon kit soon I hope.

Just for the record I did offer to pay 28k for the car but after going through a couple of managers they just wouldn't come down, kept pointing to what kbb said they should be selling it for, which I kept coming back, who would pay that for a used 06 when a new 07 can be had for 33k (If I could have got a 07 for that locally I would have already done it.)

Anyway, thanks for all the quick resonses.

I purchased my 06 auto/NAV last April for 34,200 out the door. I remember originally looking at a new Accord at a Honda dealer and there was an 05 TL auto/NAV on the lot for 33,750 (non-certified). I called the Acura dealer to have them explain what the certification meant and the (smart) salesman told me he would give me a much better deal on a new TL as I listed above. The 06 has a longer warranty than the 05 plus it has the tire pressure monitor system. All other major features are the same. I love the car. Amazingly it consistently gets 33 mpg on the highway.

I hope you enjoy your new car. Funny how if you show a dealer the KBB on a trade they say the prices are over inflated and they are a retail guide that they don't use. Which is very true. But when they want to sell they sure try to quote the prices in there.
