Buying a TL soon

Hello eveyone,

I have been surfing this board for a while now and I am almost 100% that I will get a TL this summer. Unless the 06 comes along and then I'll have to wait a bit longer (maybe)

Something crossed my mind recently about purchasing a new car:

I have bought new cars before, but something that I never did - don't ask why - is test drive the car before taking it home. I mean, when the dealer calls you and say that you can pick up your new car, do you take it for a spin before taking it home? kinda like, try on a pair of shoes before actually taking it home with you.

Cheers
D.

Like you, I've bought new cars before haven driven them.

This is my first front wheel drive car, so I definitely wanted to make sure that I was comfortable driving the car before I sat down to negotiate a deal. It's your money, you are the customer, you make the rules.

Good luck,
Brian

I always test drive the car before actually do just about anything else. A car is a big purchase, so I want to make sure that the actual car I'm going to drive home doesn't have any problems.

Just to make sure that we are all on the same page, cause it would seem that there is some mix messages I am reading.

The scenario I'm talking about is this:

1. Walk into an Acura dealer
2. Test Drive a TL and like it
3. Negotiate and buy the car
4. Come in a few days later for pickup
5. Do you test drive YOUR car before taking it off the lot? <-- This is what I am trying to find out?

And if you test drive THE CAR you WILL take off the lot, and find someting wrong, do you say I want another one?..

Cheers

Yeck yeah! I had ordered mine last December and when it arrived in January, I took it for a 15 mile testdrive and looked it over meticulously. Things to look for:

1. Pay attention to the front bumper and trunk decklid for scratches (from transport)
2. Headliner behind the moonroof
3. Driver's side airbag alignment (had to get it re-adjusted)
4. Tires (do you want the EL-42's, a trade is possible)
5. If you are getting a NAVI, check the screen for scratches

There may be a few other things to look for, but they are all fixable before delivery. Depending on when you purchase the car, you should be able to pick it up the same day. What color are you getting? Accessories?

Definitely Drive YOUR car before the paperwork is signed, the dealership should run a checklist when the car comes into them, but speaking from experiance it is not always checked sometimes it just treated a s a paperwork issue. Make sure you check everything, remember its your $35k, and its much easier to work out any problems/negotiations before they get your money than after. Good luck!! Read the threads on here and take them as advise on what to look for but rmember not all TLs are having the issues you see on here, just the guys having the problems are being vocal...like me!!! But even with the problems I have had I LOVE my TL!!!!

Been going back and forth between black, anthracite and silver. As of now, I'm considering an SSM - black interior - 5AT - Navi with the oem body kit.

Really thinking about the sports suspension though, but I think the car looks low enough already. It all depends on how much I got to pay. Some members from Canada got it for about 47k before taxes. Right now, whatever I can get and stay within the 50K CAD$ range, then it's cool.

Sounds great! I'm driving an '04 Anthracite/Ebony/NAVI/5 sp. auto. Had the dealer install the park assist, bsm's and door guards. I later added the mud flaps. I am adding the 18" A-SPEC rims this coming week (found a set of the rare gunmetals).

I've seen all three colors.... Silver shows the least amount of dirt, while Anthracite and Black tend to show the most. Anthracite is the most popular color (I have three at my office! I was the first.....LOL).

Are you planning to get a good set of snows? If so, you might consider dumping the EL-42's and putting them on the 17" rims. Later on in the new year, buy a set of 18's with summers!
