Buying a 2006 TL w/NAV this week
The prices around SoCal are pretty competitive and the spread is not too far apart. The best 5:
When I told Planet Acura that Thomas Acura had given a slightly less price (although not telling him it was only three cents!) he dropped his price to 31,200 and then 31,100 in the next breath.
I'm getting anthracite with black.

These guys are really battling. Thomas said they'd match the Downey/Planet price and Sierra said they'd go to $30,999.
It makes you wonder how low they will go!

Didn't go as well as planned.
The price was right but before I started I spoke with the salesperson, "Kendra," who gave me the quote and told her I didn't want to meet with anyone else, just her. She agreed.
We got back to the dealership after a test drive of the car I picked out and she asked me to fill out a credit app. I appeased her even though I was handing her a check for the full amount.
Then the troubles started.
"When you're done with that, you'll meet with 'Victor' and he'll discuss some accessories we sell," she said.
"Who is Victor?" I asked
"He's our finance director. He'll go over some items like Lojack, extended warr..."
I interupted, "I thought we agreed I am only meeting with you. I don't want any of those items. Just bring me the contract."
She said she was not authorized to go over that part of the sale and we went back and forth for a few. She said he'd show me a 5-minute video on the products and services they sell with each car and I could not skip it due to some sort of "discrimination laws" she made up. Like I am going to sue them if they don't try and bend me over the desk in order to buy paint sealant.
I said I'd sign a waiver stating I declined all the optional upgrades. She sighed and told me Victor would finish the paperwork and be with me in a few minutes.
I glanced into Victor's office. Typical car sales veteran. I've seen these guys a million times: slicked-back hair, graying at the temples, weathered face, nicotine stained fingernails, suspenders, and $60 loafers from JC Penney.
I waited about 25 minutes and he never came out. He looked like he was taking his time. I looked for Kendra. She was Gone.
Finally I left. Just up and walked out. All I had signed was a credit app.
Not two minutes later I get a call on my cell from Kendra.
"What happened? Did you have to go back to work?" she asked.
"No," I said, "You guys seemed too busy to sell me a car."
"Victor is almost done. He has to go over the paperwork and make sure the vin is accurate..."
I interrupted again. "You could have printed 20 contracts in that time."
"Are you coming back?"
"I'll think about it."
CLICK
Two minutes later she called again but I let it go to voicemail. She said she's drive the contract to my office and have me sign it. Suddenly she's authorized to handle the signing of the contract? She sounded a bit more desperate this time than last although no apology for keeping me waiting or changing the rules. They need me more than I need them. I've got plenty other dealerships I can go to!

Awesome story, LivnLegend. I hate these bastard car salesmen. Why can't they just make it easy for us? They gotta add some kind of process to determine that if a buyer is a veteran and not some kind of noob they could rip off from, then cut all the bullshit and get everything done.
Hey Liv...
I got a quote for $30,275 w/Nav (incl. Protection Package) + TTL from a dealer in OC... If you want to hold off on that purchase...i'll forward u the info once i get back from Vegas...

A co-worker told me her husband is good friends with a GM at an Acura dealer I never even check on. She said she'd get me a quote that would supposedly beat them all. I'm not sure if she really knows that to be fact but I'll find out later today.
The saleswoman called me over the weekend and left me a voice mail. I detected a bit of defeated shiver in her voice
Maybe she'll drop the price a bit to woo me back?
I read an article a while back, I don't remember where, that pointed out that car dealers frequently lace the buying process with delays. The theory being that the more time that the buyer spends at the dealership, the more determined to buy the car the buyer becomes.
Incidentally, when I bought my WDP 06 TL automatic last November, I found that most south Florida Acura dealers I emailed were adding a "documentation fee" of around $500 to the transaction in addition to the negotiated price. The dealer where I bought, Scanlon in Ft. Myers, volunteered up front that they do not add phony fees like that. It was the last day of the month, which, I am told, is the best time to buy because because salesmen are anxious to make their quotas. Anyway, I asked him to first fax a copy of the dealer signed sales invoice so I could make sure there were no surprises and then deliver the car to my home which he agreed to do provided he could do so that afternoon.
So, buy over the net, watch out for phony fees and ask them to deliver your car, they might just do it. Then you'll avoid the anxiety of long waits at the dealer.

Hey LivinLegen and Webguy,
I was wondering if you could send me those quote/info over too? I'm down in San Diego and will be purchasing soon, so I want to be armed with some numbers from various areas when I go into the dealerships. PM me and I'll send you my email if thats cool. Thanks!

yeah exactly, i'm tradinging in my vovlo s40 and i have a budget with what i can spend to cover the TL. buying a 06 i can probably get away with 34 OTD but with 07 it'll be tougher to bargain the price down to something below 35k.

Why not wait and see what the new TL-S looks like in fall/spring?
