Bumper repaint.

I really don't want to go into the whole story, but my car was a victim of hit and run. Took some paint off the bumper and knocked it enough to misalign it from the rear fender (or whatever its called... quarter panel?). Luckily the paint is only missing on the bumper, so I'm guessing it can just be taken off, repainted, and put back on. Shouldn't need to pay to have it realigned since they have to take it off anyway.

Anyway, how much am I going to be paying?

When I had my bumper repainted as part of warranty repair, it cost the dealer $650. Just to give you an idea...

Took some pics with my camera phone, these are the most clear ones. I was at a friends house after so I didn't have access to my digital camera... which is broken anyway.

About the same...

I had nearly the same thing happen to mine about a month ago, except that someone witnessed it and nailed the guy.

The repairs were $423 to refinish the damaged area - they didn't repaint the entire bumper. The biggest part of the cost is labor and all the body shops I got estimates from quoted removing the cover and repainting off the car.

But my cover wasn't moved out of alignment like yours so there may be some additional damage underneath depending on how hard it got hit. Best to take it to a body shop so they can look up underneath.

Personally, this is not a repair I'd try myself. Too much finessing required to sand and feather the edges properly and silver is the hardest color to match and blend.

Wow, when I had the loaner TL's left bumper scraped it was exactly the same situation. Same color car, and the damage looks strikingly similar. I'll have to post MY cell phone camera pics

Warranty repair on my TL because there was that bump in the paint.

Alright, well luckily my mom's side of the family seems to know someone who runs an autobody shop, so I went over there and he quoted me $300 cash, no tax, to match the paint, sand the bumper, repaint it, and realign it. It'll only take him a day to do it, and overnight for the paint to cure. Pretty good deal I think.

Where can I get the repair kit you talked about and what do I get?

I have the same problem and would love to be able to fix it.

Thanks

The same shit happened to me a week after I got my TL... I was parked in a shopping center on the very end parking spot and someone had scratched up my rear bumper trying to make a turn. I came out and was pissed as all hell. It was a white car. I went on a rampage trying to see if I can find the car that did it. In the end, I just got my bumper repainted after getting quotes from a few local places. It cost me $300 and looks just like new. Can't tell that anything ever happened.

Wow, cost you 300 also? I didn't really think this guy was cutting me any special deal... my aunt and uncle told me they rarely do them favors, even though they bring in so much business for the guy. And now he won't even give their nephew (me) a better price. Oh well. 300 isn't too bad.

He could be giving you a deal, just because another person got it painted for $300, doesn't mean it's not a good deal. Mine cost $410 to repaint the whole thing, and Kosh paid $423 just for a refinish of the damaged area, and Lore said it cost the dealer $650. You'll obviously get different rates if you shop around, but from what I've seen, $300 is a pretty good deal.

Alright then. Either way I am sticking with him, no need to shop around... People in this thread were generally paying more so I am getting a bit of a deal. I would have just expected something at-cost for a family friend. Oh well.

And for your location, $300 might very well be the cost. I know that if I was going to get my hood repainted the same time as my bumper, it would have cost me $400 because I was saving roughly $150 off the cost of mixing the paint. Most of the $300 is probably labor.

By the way, the loaner TL I had that got scuffed looks like this (quite similar to yours, as you'll see):

Mine were worse :P

04TL loaner though, nice.

I didn't even get an RSX loaner. I'm treated like a second class citizen since I'm under 21. (loaner for another problem, not this)

I'm under 25 (close though!) so I wasn't even supposed to get that loaner, but somehow they forgot to check the age.

Their insurance covers 21 and over, and they loan out Acuras, no rental cars. I believe the rental age is 25, which might be why they weren't supposed to give you one if they are on a similar insurance... even though they loaned out an Acura, who knows. The guy had to ask me how old I was. I mean, I'm 17, I don't look like I am over 21. Weird.

17? What the hell are you doing driving a TL? I didn't even have my own car when I was in high school. I need one for work now, so that's a whole different story.

I thought the whole board knew I was 17. I like standing up to everyone who generalizes us younger drivers. Oh well. :P

I don't think a repaint is all you need. Take a look at the pictures more closely... the vertical gap between the rear bumper and the rear left quarter panel is different from the gap seen on the rental one, although the paint damage seems very similar. It might cost more than a few hundred dollars to realign this bumper of yours. I think you did mention the misalignment though, but everybody seems to only talk about the paint. Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents =) Sorry about the hit and run though, anyways...

Nah, he looked at the bumper, he said he can reattach it without a problem. You kind of have to see it in person.
