breaking car in...

I am going to be driving about 500 miles right after I pick up my Anthracite/Ebony TL/6MT. What would be the correct way to break my newest toy in?? ( as far as driving speed and braking etc are concerned)

during your drive, get in and out of the fast lane regularly, so you can reduce speed regularly, shift between gears 5 4 & 3 within reason, don't rev engine above 4,000 rpms if possible,

Also it says for the first 200 miles to watch your breaking.

I have an AT and am driving the car like an old lady until 600 miles.

Braking really far back (I am atr 115 so another 85 miles of that) and it says not to accelerate quick from dead stop for 600 miles.

I suppose a little care in the break in period will lead for years of enjoyment thereafter.

Mike

PS Althought ti doesnt say it in the manual, even with automatic I think it is best not to drive at one speed very long or set the cruise for the first 600 miles as well.. something about the transmission.

Vary engine rpm. One way to do that is to vary speed in a 5 to 15 mph range and alternate between 5th and 6th. No full throttle and easy on the brakes. By the time you get home you will be mostly broken in!
