breakin period

My acura dealer told me there is no breakin needed on the car, and they are ready to drive. True? I have not really gotten on it yet...200 miles.

The owners manual speaks to this. 600 miles I believe.

This is really the problems of Acura dealers. Each of them just tells customers what they think but what the book says. My stupid dealer ever said the break-in period should extend to 10k-20k and you have to change oil every 3k. WTF...

Read the manual, it says there's a break in period. Whether is 'required' or not, who knows. Play it safe. Listen to the manual, take it easy on the car for 600 miles and you will be fine. You'll put several thousands on miles on this car during its life.. driving sensibly for 600 won't kill you.

Ya I intend to take it easy...I have gotten to 6000 rpm in 1st gear but thats about it. I drive it like a grandmother for the most part...but after 600 miles that will change :diablotin

I remember by older brother, who was a cop at the time, stopped my brand new 1977 black and gold 6.6 "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans Am at the top of an entry ramp to the DC beltway and floored it. Had his partner driving the cruiser behind. He got that sucker up to 120 and I was horrified. He said that was how they "broke in" all their new police cruisers.

there is an article about breaking in engines by driving it hard. i did alot of research about this when i was about to take delivery of my car. it sounded interesting but i was too scared to do this to my first new car. what i finally concluded was to drive the car with varying loads (different rpm's) and following what the manufacturer said. i have 1400 miles on the car right now and it feels pretty strong to me. here is the article if you are interested in this method.
