Brake problems

hi guys, i have an 08 base nav tl (automatic) and
so if i am going at 35mph and i were to stop at the light and i gradually step on the brake and around 20-25 mph, the rpm goes up and acts like if the car is trying to go forward when i'm not even stepping on gas but brake.
i did go to the acura dealership and got it checked out but they said nothings wrong with transmission or the engine...
i was wondering if this is really normal thing?

I think you're accidentally pressing the accelerator pedal while you brake. This happened to me several times when my TL was new and I was getting used to it... it even happened during my test drive before I bought the car new in '05. My previous car had been a 2000 Accord; before that, a 1990 Accord. Both were also MTs. I think it must depend what you're used to, and how the exact pedal relationship changed. My heel was inadvertently pressing the bottom of the accelerator pedal while my toe was on the brake.

What you explained is pretty much called "engine braking". As you are coasting to a stop the car will automatically downshift and you will feel it downshift. It down shifts into a lower gear to slow the car down gradually on its own from the compression stroke so you don't have to use the brakes as often.

You guys may be right but this explains the rpm increase only, not the "acts (as) if the car is trying to go forward..." part. When an auto trans downshifts like that, you feel the retarding effect of the compression braking, not a surge forward.

Maybe the OP could explain a bit more(?)

There is a bit of a lurch when it makes that shift...definitely noticeable.
