Brake pedal at startup?

Simple dumb question, I actually have forgotten.

Are you supposed to press the brake pedal to start up, and if you dont the engine wont start?

Mine can w/o pedal press.

04 TL owners manual states to press the brake pedal?
IIRC'ly on my 2003 CL-S auto, if I shut the engine off with the shift lever in 'N' with the e-brake applied it won't let me take the key out of the ignition.

no you don't need to press the brake pedal to start the car in an A/T car

This is correct for an 04-08 TL.

A lot of modern cars with push button start require you to push the pedal first.

Just curious, do you know the process for a modern push button start manual transmission car?
I'm inclined to believe, obviously, the clutch pedal would still need to be actuated.

Is an S2000 modern?

because if so, then yes, clutch pedal has to be depressed before push button is engaged

Yes, any manual car since probably sometine in the 1980's has required the clutch to be depressed to start the car. At least in the USA.

I am not sure when clutch interlock switches became a requirement though. The 1980's is a guess.

He!! no, that's old hat!
Here is the procedure for the 2024 ITS manual trans.
Both the brake & clutch pedal are depressed, though it specifically states the clutch must be:

Thanks. This is what I was wondering about. Was worried that I forgot some years back and have been ruining it somehow... cuz it starts up without remembering to put the foot on the brake pedal. If it was NOT ALLOWED TO START WITHOUT DOING THIS FIRST, then would be a DIY maintenance I should put on the list for spring.
Thankfully, this must mean nothing is broke, or defiled
