Brake fluid change?

So I've recently just purchased an 07 type s with 43500 miles from an elderly couple. Maintained via dealership, low miles and no accident so I knew purchasing the vehicle was a no brainer. However, I can feel/hear the front brakes going (low grumbling noise every now and then. The inspection stated it has 4mm in the front while the rears have 8mm left in them. I've decided to go ahead and just change the whole set with Stoptech pads, drilled/slotted rotors & xlr8 brake lines. While this is happening is there a need for me to change the brake fluid? If so which fluid should I put in, oem or a different brand?

It's not necessary to change fluid when you change pads, but if I didn't know the maintenance history for the fluid, I'd change it. OEM spec for fluid change is 36 months.

Any Dot 3/4 fluid will be fine.

If you're gonna be changing brake lines, you might as well flush the fluid while you're in there, especially since you don't know the history.

I just used a brand name DOT 4 fluid from the auto parts store. Don't really remember the name. For something like the transmission I use OEM, but brake fluid is just hydraulic fluid. Make sure to at least use DOT 4.

DOT 4 will need to be changed more often than DOT 3 because it will absorb water more quickly and the boiling point will actually fall faster than the DOT 3 fluid. There are also DOT 3 fluids that have a higher boiling point than some DOT 4 fluids.

Just change the fluid as recommended and all will be good.

Thumbs up

I'm getting my brakes flushed in a few hours again and I'm sticking to what I started putting into my TL as soon as I got it (and after many recommendations here on AZ):
