Brake check sound

Is it possible for the ABS check that you hear as you first start to drive the car to stop making the sound?

SHould I be worried? I no longer hear it like I used to. Everyday, same place etc. Now it does not do it.

Problem?

No, he's referring to that sort of a "thunk" (for lack of a better term) that you hear as you start to drive off after you turn on your car. I can also feel it through the accelerator--happens at right about 10 mph, at the same time when the doors lock.

Right - that "thunk".

I don't hear it anymore. Just curious if that means there is a problem with my ABS?

I am laughing to myself cuz - we all complain about noises, now I am complaining cuz I DON'T hear one anymore...

If it were me, I would also suspect a problem with the ABS. I've had my TL for 3 months now and still hear the noise everytime I start out (about 10 mph) after the car has been shut down. I also still hear it in my 2002 Toyota Tundra after 2 1/2 years. Although it's not a definitive test, you could try a panic stop to see if the ABS kicks in. At any rate I would discuss this with your service rep at Acura.

as suggested (but not on purpose) I got to use the ABS last night - WOW. Compared to my old car - these are like machine guns. My old Mazda you could count Mississippi's in between the pulsations - these ABS were really really effective - in my head I was already ticking off the hood, couple fenders etc, but she stopped. Car seemed ok afterwards too. I will mention to dealer when I go for tranny recall in december.

That clunk sound you hear and some times feel is normal, I just took my '04 TL in for A1 service aswell as having some minor issues looked at and the tech advised me that it was the ABS system doing a self test. By the way, I am currently driving an '05 TL loaner and it does the same sound "clunk, thump" as my '04.

I agree with ya Tbone/consultauto,
I too stated it was the ABS etc. many months ago. My 04 TL also stopped making the sound (currently at 12K), and I couldn't even tell you when ... I guess due to it never bothering me I never noticed it not being there... Tis interesting that it is no longer evident.

Mine stopped making the noise too at 7000 miles and the dealer checked the abs and said it was okay. However, they did give me new front brake pads for the brembos. oh and they changed my leaky power steering pump and guess what? Its still leaking.
