Brabus style puddle lights on the TL?

Hey I was wondering if anyone here has installed some "puddle" lights under their TL? Essentially, they just turn on when the car is unlocked and/or the doors are opened so you can see where you are stepping (hence the term puddle)...

Here's some pictures of it done on a Lexus

And here's a video on how it will work (installed on a TSX)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0

Let me know what you guys think ... Personally I think its a nice subtle touch but I'm sure some of you are going to think its a bit ricey

Cheers.

it's very simple to do. you just need to tap into the dome lights since those work with the keyless entry, and when you open and close the doors

anything is easy when you know what you are doing.

i just did an OEM Navi conversion on a 07 civic si, according to everyone it's impossible, yet it only took me 1 hour to do.

I don't think it will be that much at all...do you have any pictures of when it was on your car, or did you never install it? Where did you get it from?

Yep exactly. The only "tricky" thing would be figuring out how to attach them under the side skirts so the light source itself would be hidden but I'm reading online that a lot of people just use some double sided 3M tape (I doubt that will hold in the winter though)

Do you have a link to the product page or somewhere where I can buy that from? How much did it run you? It looks good though man - I like that you kept it pretty reserved with only 2 lights.

You have to drill holes in your skirts, attach the pods to a tube, run the wires an average job will take about 4 hrs...

Good to see that generally the feedback is positive. I'll be checking around on the internet for a good place to buy these. If anyone knows of a specific place let me know

Yeah the easy way is to just attach it to your car with the provided 3m tape but it will look like your car is a cow with multiple nipples

Yeah that could be an issue. I'm slightly worried about how they will hold up in the wicked winters here up north

I've been wanting to do this forever! I too have been busy and lazy priortizing other mods. I planned doing this sometime next year. There is an easy way to do it with 3m tape but I'd rather plan this out, take my time and do it right. Like that clean recessed like ua6spec's. Like it's been said don't over do it with too many modules or too bright. You might as well do an LED strip if you like that look. It should be just as the pic with the RL; sufficiently bright with focal beams and with no more than 3-4 modules. I think it's outrageous when I see some of these "kits" going for $200. There are cheaper kits out there, I'm looking out for some good stuff. If I do this sometime soon, I'll do it along with my A-Spec sill install we'll see.

I really like how the RL puddle lights he added match the OEM illuminated door handle (looks like he made the OEM version brighter). I don;t like how folks have chosen a very focused beam for these... These woudl look so much better if the "spot beams" cast a more even distribution of light.

I certainly agree with UA6spec, 5-6 lights is too many, reminds me of the neon tubes of the 80's... but 2 seems OK. I may go for this mod.

So set me straight, what's the "trigger" for these? when do they come on? rbf said you wire them to the overhead lights... seems easy enough...

does that mean they come on when you turn on a map light driving down the road?

Seems it would be better to wire them to the door light (ala illuminated door sills mod...), but I've see many pictures here where these seem to come on independent of any other ligth source.

These LUXART (SBL series, integrated resistor) leds seem like they'd be perfect. Surface mount, have to drill 3 small holes (2 mounting screws and one to pass the wiring through).

You'd want to wire them like the illuminated door sills. EXCEPT for 1 thing; I forgot how it was grounded and everything as a trigger.....well the main thing is to make sure it turns on not just when the door opens but along with the interior lights when you press "unlock" on the remote and when you leave the car and press "lock". Having it dim/fade with the interior lights will add to the "cool" factor!

The door sills are switch grounded... The + is always hot, the - is broken when the door is closed. When the door is opened the ground closes and complete's the circuit.

Not sure how to turn em on with both the doors and the map lights independent of each other. Not sure I want them coming on with only the map lights exclusively, that would look wierd driving down the road...

I think I'm gonna wire em to the door sills, but run a switched "double ground". That way they would come on with the doors, or come on with the switch...

looks as if you would hook it to the green/red wire(pin 5 on the homelink harness) or you can get the wire on the MICU connect I pin 4

this is just from looking at the schematics very quickly, so i could be wrong
