I wouldn't do it ..
300hp / 280tq w/ a 6 speed manual .. eek.
Also 0 to 60 in 5.1 seconds and the quarter mile in 13.7 at 102.0 mph .. eek.

It's a truly sad day when what's been known as a chick car for the last couple decades can put up a valiant fight against a 335 and an IS350. Oh well, I respect Ford for not sucking up the bailout money.

The Mustang also weighs a little more than the TL-s. I'd have to say he'd still beat you, but not by all that much. From a 1st gear roll he should probably take a 1/2 car, then by the top of 2nd 1 car. By the end of 3rd he should walk you, 2+ cars. I guess 2+ cars really isn't all that close lol, but it ain't that bad.

Credit Ford's pre-market collapse decision generate cash reserves by mortgaging it's assets. This negated any need for Govie welfare.

Yeah if it was last gen V6 stang you might have a chance.. The new ones haul ass..I tried to take one on my 08 TL-S with a 6-speed and got smoked... so your 2G probably wouldn't stand a chance..sorry bud.. you could race him just for kicks but dont put cash on it..

Ask him for 1 and the move. One car in front of the start and he goes when he sees you go. That should account for an additional carlength depending on his reflexes.

Damn, I thought you meant the 3G TL-S. That would be a very close match, but a 2G will be hard-pressed to keep up, auto or 6speed.

Automatic to Automatic a 2nd gen TLS is just a quick as a 3rd gen TLS, they never made a manual 2nd gen TLS just in the CLS. With his mods he would be a bit quicker than 3rd Gen TLS auto, manual good run.

You really think so? The 3rd gen TL-S auto is consistantly quicker than the 2nd Gen TL-S auto. Most of the 3rd gen TL-S autos I have seen run an average of around 14.6-14.7@ around 97MPH. The 2nd Gen TL-S runs an average of 14.9-15.0@94-95MPH. I believe the 2nd gen TL-S responds better to mods from what I have seen though.

I'd have to say though with a 0-60 of 5.1 I'd have thought it'd trap higher than 102...

From my experience around here nope, none of them trap 97 stock, they trap from 94-96....so from what I have experienced/seen nope. We had one BTW and it could never trap higher than 95 never. I know about elevation, tire pressure etc etc...... have been tracking for 20 yrs now!

Pick a random 2G TL-S, and a random 3G TL-S, and 99% of the time the 3G will win. And I know the 2G TL-S never came with a manual, but OP said he was thinking of putting in a 6speed.

Let's not forget the V6 Stang comes with a choice of either a 2.73 or 3.31 final drive. I just read a road test of one with a 3.31 running 13.9 @ 101, which is well within reach of a bolted 3G 6MT. All else being equal in this particular test, the 2.73 equipped car would be in the low 14's.
