BMW convert...

So, I'm driving home this evening and I am stopped at a red light. This guy in a 5 series BMW pulls up along side of me and instructs me to roll down the window. So I roll down the window and he says, "How do you like your car?" I said, "It's great!" As he was admiring the side of the car, he says "I test drove one and it was awesome. It was so fun to drive." I thanked him for the compliment and drove off.

Another convert...(and to think we paid only 2/3 of the BMW price!!!)

hehe cool.. I was stuck in traffic in Salt Lake City (on my way to the Grand Canyon), when this gentleman in a BMW X5 in the lane next to me, rolled down his window to ask me about my car:

him:Is that the new TL!?
me:Yep. Just got it.
him:Wow, that's gorgeous!
me:Wow, thanks man! I think the X5 looks good too!

Wow, finally an Acura/BMW thread without the two sides at each others' throats.

I traded in my 1999 540i 6 speed Navi black with black interior for my auto TL with Navi and WDP with Tan interior 2 weeks ago. Talk about opposite. I really like the TL though. The only differences really between the 2 are the rear passanger windows are not auto like the front 2 windows, which all 4 are in the BMW. And the pasanger seat is only 4 way adjustable, where in the BMW both front seats are 8 way. But the touch screen Navi is a lot nicer to use on the TL. Other than that they are pretty much the same car. I would not spend another $60,000 for a car when I can get one just as good for $35,000.

The hardest thing to get use to is the front wheel drive. I really hate front wheel drive cars, but the TL isn't too bad. And there is nothing like a V-8. The BMW used to throw you back in the seat from 1,000 rpms to about 4,000 or so, then it you could feel it let up till you shifted at 6,000. In the TL it is the reverse. There is not much low end pull but once the rpms get up it feels good. Because of that it is a lot easier to pass people on the freeway in the TL, which is where you really need the speed.

i am also a previous BMW owner as well. i still like the BMW over the Acura as far as handling but cannot justify the price difference. you get way more bang for you buck with the acura.

Let's wait for the newly redesigned 5 series. I think BMW will be getting very nervous over this whole ordeal, and should really make some drastic but great changes. It's just gonna take time.

Thanks to competition between auto manufacturers, the consumer benefits. This year, the TL is the car to beat in terms of value. Next year, who knows? Maybe Acura will push to keep the TL out in front. I have no doubt that the next G35 will have a greatly improved interior. The 3 series probably will, too. I haven't seen the new MB C-class, but I know they've been upgraded considerably. The C-class didn't compete well at all in terms of value. 2 years from now it could be an entirely different story -- or not.

So correct me if I am wrong, you are saying that passing is easier in the TL, which e.g. turns at 2000 RPM at 70mph and has not much torque available than 540 whose engine (with auto tranny) would have 2,700 RMP at 70 mph and at least 250 l/f of torque available. Does not make much sense to me.

I think the BMW is superior in city driving (not highway). If you spend alot of time on highways, then by all means TL. For example driving in Manhattan requires the responsiveness of the beamers.

ACURA TL - BMW 530i - MB E320

I love competition!
we all win, big time. I'm glad I'm alive to see it. and drive them all. :P

Saw the new 2005 C series MB (a C 320 AWD to be specific). Really nice looking automobile but in terms of features vs. features the TL still wins. The leather in the MB looks much, much, nicer and of higher quality than the TL's in my opinion. A base (*base*) C 320 AWD goes for about $38,000 and most of the features push it to almost $45,000+! HP for the C 320 is 215hp vs. 270hp for the TL.

I must say the 330 AWD BMW still is my automobile of choice but I cannot stomach paying $45,000+ for a configured 330! :sqnteek:

Those who've traded their BMW how was the adjustment to the TL's 'loose steering'?? Here I must say the BMW excels. I enjoy my sister's 2003 325i. This puppy hugs and kisses the road. I love the heavy feel of the steering.

Now if the TL had the handling of the BMW and the AWD of the C 320. Whoa!
