Which model cell phone do you have? I recently read a review of the Sony Ericsson T610 that said it had the problem you described but not with the earlier T68i model which sounded fine using bluetooth HFP.

The review (very long and complete, I thought) is at:

http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Page=1&Id=391

The section I'm refering to is at the end of the first page:

The quality of the audio [with the T610] over one of these Bluetooth devices is quite a bit inferior to that of the T68i. There is more crackle, and the overall quality just isn't there. It is a definite step backwards. In the end, I would say that we are worse off than with the T68i. When you consider that a few times I had trouble pairing a new Bluetooth device, it is a definite step back. A retry or, worst case, restart always got past the problem, but it is a problem I never had with my T68i (running the initial version of the T68i firmware still today).

Unhappy

I don't know specifically what providers are in your area, but here in Texas, AT&T, Cingular and T-Mobile have bluetooth phones. The most common phones are the Sony Ericsson T616 (mentioned above) and the Nokia 3650. Others are the Sony Ericsson P800 (very expensive PDA/Phone) and the Siemens S56 (which I have read has poor battery life). I was hoping to go to the T616, but it sounds like it doesn't work well with the Handsfree Link in the TL.

I'm intrested in hearing from folks that have other brands of Bluetooth phones and a TL to see if this problem is just with the T616.

Problem is that there isn't much choice in Bluetooth phones here in the US. In my case I will have to change providers at the end of my current contract because Verizon doesn't even offer a bluetooth phone.

Am I the only wishing that Acura would have included a USB port or something similar for the handsfree link as well as bluetooth? Always seemed a USB port would be the way to go since you can link virtually any phone then. The bluetooth is cool but there are so few phones that support it that it is almost useless right now. Our best hope for bluetooth looks to be the Motorola v600 which will be an ATT phone. I wish they had a USB link, or someone had a USB -> bluetooth link that would let me use my Verizon phone with the handsfree system.

I currently have have Sprint; therefore I am shopping for a new phone since Sprint has NO Bluetooth. I spoke with ATT and they have the Sony Erricsson T616 and the Nokia 3650; P800 is out of my range. Anyway, they said I have 30 days to switch out phones if I am un-happy. The T616 is awefully small which is great except for fat stubby fingers. I will probably start with the Nokia and go from there.

First Acura,

Please let us know who the Nokia works out.

I'm testing a TL this afternoon and I will ask for a demo of the hands free link and I will note what phone they use and report back.
