Best rear aftermarket bumper replacements?
I have rear bumper damage and need to either have it sanded and repainted, or replaced with something else. I was hoping the A-spec kit would solve my issue, but I just found out that it's just a lip.. so, I was going to see if any of you guys recommended an aftermarket bumper replacement that comes already painted (my car is AM).

no. OEM only. full paint and new bumper going to run $650-900 depending on the shop.
the problem with aftermarket is the fitment. i dont' think you will find an aftermarket replacement that comes prepainted ready to match your car.
hence you are better off with OEM replacement and getting it painted by a body shop so they can match it appropriately.
the body shop i went (for my TL)/going to (now for the MDX) replaced my rear bumper after the previous replacement bumper paint failed and was most likely contaminated. they only replace with OEM.

I apologize for how dirty she is.. but you can see the main damage on the left side, with scattered scrapes along the lower middle.

Can someone please post a 3rd gen AM with an A-spec bumper?

this is what a friend of mine did....
find a guy who does paint chip work at a local dealership and have him fix it....a friend of mine had damage which was a lot worse....took it to that guy, he fixed it and painted it (no paint mismatch) for $200-$250 (brain fart)....
anyway so that way you will save a ton a money....by the time you will buy a bumper and have it primed and painted your looking at upwards of 700-ish (for a good job)....
you an save urself the cash and prolly get a aspec kit
just FYI
Bumpers: 04-06, 07-08, Type S
Aspec kit: goes on the bumper (bottom part): 04-06 Aspec, 07-08 Aspec, Type S

^^^ I have comp and col too but wanted to know why your insurance is paying if you got rear ended....
runaway buggies FTL....i never park next to them....
but yeah, I would get a quote from a local guy who works at the dealership and go talk to him directly....dont talk via the dealer....
I think you will be all done for $300-350...so even if you claim insurance they not gonna pay for it as your ded is 500....

either way bro...if you go thro insurance it stays on ur record for couple years....
if the damage was 700-800+ I would have said yes go through insurance but ur claiming insurance for $100-200 I think is not worth it....
either way get a quote from a guy and go from there....even if you go to the most expensive guy, I dont think it will be more than 700-ish...

^^^ Yes...decide based on the quote....and its called an aspec lip....you can get the ronjon rear bumper or some like that as well....but yeah that will end up being pretty pricey....
what a lot of people do is:
Take a quote from a really expensive shop....say $1000
Insurance gives you $1000-$250 ded....$750
Take it to a cheap shop and get it done.....say $300
Buy and front and rear aspec lip from the remaining $450....
I have seen a ton of people do it....they wont admit it but well....I have not had an accident/insurance claims so dont know how that works exactly....

considering i just dealt with my rear bumper...
just to give you an idea:
high end shop quote: full bumper sand and respray ~$600
fix just the effected areas with bondo and respray ~$450+
Full blown OEM replace and spray ~$700 to $900 (the latter price coming from a high end shop).
these are prices for my area, but should give you an idea.
while yes the lot lizard may be able to fix the bumper for you at a lower cost, the quality and longevity of the work may not last (had/have this isse with the tailgate of my MDX after 3 tries). just something to consider. again i understand it all comes down to the prep work and WHO does the work, so results may vary.
if it was my car (which my cars have been through this process), i would take it to a reputable body shop, and let them know exactly what your expectations are. plus then you're covered by lifetime warranty on the work if anything happens to the paint (workmanship) after the fact (as in the case of my TL's rear bumper).

^^^ I dont completely agree with you....
just coz u buy a wine from a restaurant which cost $30 more than a liquor shop doesnt mean ur getting a better wine....
the reason I asked him to go with the guy and not the dealership is coz dealership will charge him more and get the work done from the same guy....
also am yet to come across a body shop who give you "lifetime warranty" or paint and other work....max I have seen is 3-4 years....

true, just b/c you pay more you may not get a better product. that's why i said it really comes down to WHO is doing the work. and the ole saying is...its all in the prep. my rear bumper was REPLACED and REDONE 3 years after the fact for paint blistering (granted i had to bark up the food chain a little to get them to do it).
instead of rehashing my experience...
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/blistered-bumper-paint-832702/
now granted i'm sure i was a little bit of an exception, but my outcome was better than expected.
and i think if you went directly to the lot guy and actually spoke to him about the expectations etc...he might actually give a damn and do it right. sorry, i'm just bitter, since the guy my dealer used apparently falls into the don't give a damn category. so my new friends at the body shop my TL was at is now caring for my MDX. its just really hard to find people who give a shit anymore.
i just find that a lot of times when you go the inexpensive route you end up with more issues than its worth. so its a matter of trusting and having faith in the individual (s) providing the service that YOU expect.

i feel u...
if you dont like spicy food and u go to a restaurant you will give it a bad review....and someone else who likes spicy food might not go that route coz of ur review....
yes, it all depends on experience....i usually go 2-3 times to meet the guy before I give something so that you can see what the dude is working on and how he is working on it....and then i give something....and i did this for getting my visors painted LOL....
similarly everyone says stray away from maaco....but I had a friggin great experience with them (in STL)....they painted my friends car....bloody perfect....he didnt even take the top of the line options, he went for the middle one (I think there is regular, premier and presidential)....some thing like that....
either way OP....do your research
