Beat Cobalt SS

Raced a Cobalt SS, i think 06. Beat it from roll and dig pretty bad, with some wheelspin.

Good kill The older models are supercharged and our TL can beat it but the new model is turbocharged out TL will not stand a chance

If it was an auto trans Cobalt SS (06 or 07 model, not sure about the 08's or newer) then it was not supercharged, only the manual trans models had the supercharged ecotec motor. A properly driven Cobalt SS MT with the supercharger would easily take care of your base auto trans TL without question.

Cool, I always thought those(Supercharged) would be pretty even if not quicker than the TL.

nah i think the supercharged ones are prob just as fast as a base TL, its the new turbo charged ones that you gotta watch out for. either way still a crappy car.

agree i would never get caught dead driving one but the 08 are pretty quick dont sleep on em my "brother" has one intake and tuned... before the tune we raced and i kept on his ass for a while then he skeeted off but after his tune no competition he was gone.

my other close friend is on his second ss s/c his first one was stock with intake and i walked all over him. (there not too quick) he ended up gettin ran off the road and it was totaled... he picked up another one and i drove it home from the dealer for him beacuse his license is suspended. that lucky fuck man were drivin home and im like man this thing pulls way harder than your 1st one we pull over pop the hood and sure enough the GM stage 2 kit is already installed... lol so with he stage to s/c kit id say the base tl would lose definatly

The supercharged SS and an auto TL are about the same from a roll. I have an 05 TL and my friend has a supercharged Cobalt SS. I got him by about half a car when we raced from a roll, but he took me from a dig. The new turbo SS's are extememly quick and would easily beat an auto TL. Most likely he raced an N/A cobalt SS that is why he beat it so easily.

With all my mods, I lost to an 06 MT SS by about 2 car lengths from a dig.

They will beat a base 3rd gen=TLS 2nd gen

Well a properly driven 06 Cobalt SS supercharged MT will easily trap 98-99mph in the 1/4 mile so I would have to imagine the person you raced sucked at rowing the gears and launching the car. Your car if your lucky traps in the low 90's..... Racing a car that traps 6-7MPH faster than yours in the 1/4 mile will result in you getting smoked really bad. A well driven Cobalt SS supercharged will give a 07/08 Type S 6MT a run for its money.

You must have the fastest base model auto TL on the planet with all these cars you claim you race and beat.

6-7mph is flat out embarassing, the other car is running away from you.

I posted a video a while back of my stock base TL against a 114mph GN and it took everything I had just to stay in the pedal until we were done.

The older supercharged Cobalt is slower than 98-99 mph in stock form. My car traps at 99-100 and I flat out ran away from a Saturn Ion Redline, which is basically the same car. I think it's plausible that a 3G 5AT could stay with one. The new turbo ones are quite a bit quicker.

I believe its post #26..... bone stock 2005 SS putting down 98+mph trap speeds, do a bit of research on this site and you will see many people putting down these kind of trap speeds in bone stock SC models..... the turbo cars are hitting 101-103mph.

So like I said...... A properly driven Cobalt SS SC will give a 07/08 Type S with a 6MT a run for its money, it without a doubt will put a hurting on a base 5AT model (please read above where I said properly driven).

Hey Im not happy that a $22,000 econobox with big HP will take the paint off my 07 TL-S 5AT but the facts are the facts

agreed, I trapped 99 when i was stock in my ss/sc. Although most run mid/high 14's stock since wheel hop and wheel spin are a big problem. OP most likely raced a 2.4 ss/na, which are high 15 second cars. The new 08-09 ss/tc have been hitting 12's with just a tune, and some have hit mid 13's stock.

Why is that? i am actually surprised that a 3rd Gen TL would not beat a chevy cobalt? is it because of weight difference? Tl engine still stronger than the Chevy Cobalt... Anyways its not same class cars and not comparable whatsover lol still i guess its interesting how that little shit box can out race these acuras

thanks for calling my car a shit box, please think before you type next time. Yes, your car is more luxury and has some different features, but the cobalt isn't a shit box. 3rd gens are very heavy and usually are in the mid/high 14s if they are auto. Stock 05-07 cobalt ss/sc's are in the mid/low 14's stock. New turbo cobalts are in the low 14's/mid 13's. I agree your TL and the cobalt aren't in the same class, but you are comparing luxury/speed here. The new cobalt beat out the STi in the nurburgring and was 1st in it's class, that should make you consider it respectable.

Calling the car a $hit box is not fair at all..... its an economy car with a great engine (same principal as the SRT-4 neon). Its way lighter than the TL and with the SC it makes great torque. I also know its not the same class but the original poster is the one who made the thread and is always claiming to win races against cars that are much faster than his base TL..... I was getting all kinds of disagreement from others here so I posted up some facts to show how fast these Cobalts actually are.

The TL is a great car, offers killer bang for the buck and given the right setup it can be a quick sport luxury sedan.... however its by no means a world class performer like some here think. I love how people are just so shocked when they get beat, like the TL is some kind of out of the box race car. You want speed like that out of a heavy 4 door luxury sedan then I recommend you start looking at cars like the BMW M5, AMG series Benz, Caddy CTS-V, etc......

back in 06 i was at a drag strip in NC and witnessed a STOCK cobalt SS run consistant times 14.0s-14-2s and i'm pretty sure he got a 13.9 as well. Traps where 97-99mph. Hell the thing still had dealer plates on it. I still think they are gay as hell, but with a good driver....
